Description A wee project I've been poking at since the start of the year or thereabouts, finally completed. For those not in the know, Dark Apostles are basically incredibly evil preachers who have been pissed off for the last ten thousand years.

I've been working on reds recently, but it's still not quite there - although it is much better than reds I've done previously. I also tried to really push the effect of a zenithal light source, so everything is basically black in the recesses and lots of the lightest points get close to white (within reason).

Mostly, however, I'm pleased with the character of the guy - he looks about as angry and heretical as you'd expect.

Very nice work, especially the facial details. Is he based off an existing character or is he one of your own?

The character is original, and sort of composed on the fly. I had a few ideas and mashed them together as I built him, adding more bits here and there as I went.

NICE! [I'm still using bronze-over-rust primer spray-to-play necrons . . . but hey, they were asleep for 60million years, whaddya want? Clean armor?]

very nice work, lots of detail in his base, far better than what i could do, bum in getting better...

how did you do the coppery silver on his armour, its done nicely and not overly bronzed.

Thanks for the compliment!

The steel is pretty basic, but it takes a while:

Boltgun metal (a couple of *very* thin layers).

Shade repeatedly with charadon granite, mixing in black and working further into the shadows.

Highlight with boltgun, then chainmail.

Mix scaly green and catachan green until you get an odd, swampy sort of colour, and water it down a tonne. Apply it in thin layers about ten times to the mid-region -- the part of the metal where the shading begins to give way to the highlights.

Final highlight with mithril on the sharp, raised edges.

Hope that doesn't confuse you too much; the most important bit is to water the paints right down and have a tiny quantity on your brush - you should be able to see the water evaporate out of the paint right after you put it on the model.

thanks for that, the info about the watering down has been very useful.

I usually do a single coat of mithril silver for a polished sliver look, but i bought some orcs recently and im thinking of new techniques for them.

thanks.
