Description

It was a beautiful spring day in the cotton wood valley; The birds were singing, the sun was out, and the insects weren't out quite yet. Soon, but not yet. Once the biting bugs came out the spring would become a lot less wonderful for everyone. Though, as the dun paint stallion cast his gaze over his herd, as they grazed peacefully among the rocky meadow, he couldn't help but smile contently.

Re'venox attention was draw away from admiring his herd as he heard approaching hoofsteps. The stallion turned to look to see a dark, sabino filly approaching. He cocked his head in confusion as he realized she was carrying something round and orange. Curious about what she was doing, he stood still and merely smiled at her as she made her way towards him.

Jinx struggled to keep her grip on the pumpkin, the fresh stem still flexible and growing slick in her mouth. The filly trotted quickly towards the stranger, hoping to get to him before she dropped her gift. Thankfully, she managed to close the distance and was able to put the pumpkin down before him fully intact. With that, she faced the strange stallion confidently and greeted him politely, “Hello, I brought you a gift!”

Revvy tried not to chuckle at the filly, not wanting to offend her, as he returned her greeting, “Hello to you too. Thank you for this gift, that's very nice of you.” He took a moment to inspect the 'gift' and discovered it was a small pumpkin. Bit of an odd thing to give, but they were pretty tasty so he wasn't going to turn down some free food.

“So what's your name mister?” Jinx asked.

“My name is Re'venox, though everyone calls me Revvy. What's your name?” He said in return

    “Jinx.” She answered.

Revvy cocked a brow, asking in confusion, “But we didn't say the same thing?”

The filly snorted at this, “No, my name is Jinx.”

“Oooooh, sorry.” The stallion chuckled. “Say, where is your family?” Revvy asked, worried that the filly might be lost.

“Over there,” The filly nodded back towards the direction she'd come from, frowning when she saw Ajax coming over the hill, “oh no, here comes my dad.”

Revvy snapped to attention at this, spotting the large, scarred, red dun stallion as he stood on the rise and scanned the area. More horses were appearing behind him, including a mare that Revvy immediately suspected was the mother of the filly before him. It was clear the herd was looking for their wayward filly, and once they spotted her the stallion started to make his way towards them. Revvy noticed the stallion puffing himself up and pinning his ears back. Obviously the stallion felt that the stranger standing near his daughter was a threat. Realizing his predicament, Revvy tried to quickly defuse the situation.

“Hello there, are you this little lady's father?” Revvy asked as the stallion got closer. He tried to keep his posture looking relaxed and his tone friendly. Predicting the actions of a protective stallion was never easy. Some were reasonable, while others wanted to destroy you for merely breathing the same air as their herd members. Revvy really didn't feel like fighting, so he was relieved when he saw the stallion react in a non-threatening manner.

Ajax perked his ears at the question, slowing his pace as he replied, “I am.”

“You have a very sweet and generous daughter, sir. She gave me this here pumpkin.” Revvy tapped the pumpkin with his hoof and smiled at the stallion.

Ajax blinked and paused at this, looking over the scene with confusion, “Oh?” He looked at his daughter, asking gently, “Is this true?”

    Jinx nodded, “Mmhmm!”

Ajax let out a big sigh, any ill will towards the stallion fading away. “That was very nice of you Jinx, but did we not just talk yesterday about stranger danger?” Ajax asked his daughter, looking exasperated.

Jinx puffed her chest, almost looking offended, “Yeah but he's not a stranger! His name is Re'nox!”

“Re'venox” Revvy gently corrected, winking at the filly.

“That's what I said.” Jinx said quickly.

Revvy chuckled but said nothing more, amused by the scene. It was clear that this was a frequent issue that the filly's father had to deal with.

Ajax raised a brow at the stallion, but kept his attention on his daughter, “Jinx, that's not what we meant by knowing someone before talking to them. We'll talk more about this later, your mother is worried sick about you and you need to get back to the herd.” The red dun used his no nonsense dad face and with a whine the filly trotted back to the herd. Once his daughter was out of earshot, he turned to face the other stallion. He was grateful that Jinx at least had the sense to approached someone who seemed to be a good guy.

“She seems like quite the hoofful” Revvy commented to break the ice.

Ajax snorted, relaxing visibly, “You have no idea. I think I'm cursed to have troublesome daughters.” He laughed softly, the other stallion joining in. Ajax noticed the stallion's herd nearby, smiling at the sight of other foals. Re'venox was a father as well, something that made Ajax feel a lot more at ease with what had happened. “Jinx was just told the other day about the danger of approaching strangers... but I swear everything we say just goes in one ear and out the other.” Ajax explained with a sigh, shaking his head.

“I wouldn't worry too much about her, she's a lot smarter than she acts.” Revvy reassured, though he would probably feel the same way if one of his kiddos was doing the same thing. “Besides, I got lunch out of the deal.” Revvy joked, hoping to lighten the mood.

Ajax laughed at both those statements, agreeing with the stallion. The two ended up talking for a while, and both herds spent the day socializing in the meadow. All the foals had a blast, and one look at Jinx as she raced around with the other foals made Ajax suspect that this was her intention all along. Jinx just seemed to have a way to bring others together.

As usual, I love your backgrounds. And the foal carrying the little pumpkin is far too adorable XD
I don't think anything could be cuter.
