“I’m going to end up falling asleep right here,” he said, bending his arm to pillow his head and yawning. “Do me a favor and kick Morrigan if she comes near me while I’m asleep, okay?”

“Deal,” she answered drowsily. “Though we should probably move nearer the camp if we’re staying out here.”

“Would that require getting up?”

“Most likely.”

“Pass.”

She chuckled and rolled to her side, snuggling against him. “Oh, you’re warm.”

“Well, you know – anything to keep you thinking I’m a handy sort of guy to have around.”

Elissa fell quiet, thoughtfully resting her chin on his shoulder. “Alistair? You know that I love you, right?”

He went very still, and after an indeterminable silence she risked a glance at him. He was deliberately trying to stay casual, though the brightness of his smile did nothing for the illusion. “Maker, that must have been like pulling teeth.”

She smiled to herself, closing her eyes as she burrowed even nearer. “It was.”

He laughed and rolled over, propped up on one elbow to look down at her. “I think some part of me fell in love with you the moment you slugged Daveth for putting his hand on your knee.”

My entry to the "3 Words" contest over at . This scene in Shades of Grey actually takes place in the dead of winter, but as the contest mentions being a celebration of spring, I changed it up a bit. So, everyone got a preview that's... not, I guess.

Also, this is actually the first time Elissa says those three words... Alistair does it first, but the first time he does is... slightly rated M. Or very rated M. So you all get stuck with the secondary scene. Enjoy
