Description Submission for the "Favorite Romance" contest over at .

Any addict of the written word knows this simple truth: Real love is letting him read over your shoulder.

Not very Valentine-y I realize, but I'll explain myself. I tried out several sketches: kissing, hugging, groping--you know, standard Dragon Age stuff--but I didn't like any of them. When it comes down to it, my characters aren't very excessive with the "my love"s and die-for-you speeches. They're actually quite reserved. They just like... well, being together.

And, since I just had to explain all of that, I probably missed the point completely. BUT, it came together really, really quickly and I'm fairly happy with it, so here it is, anyway.

I do not know how I missed seeing these before. I love this and your other deviations as well. They're beautifully done. Letting someone read over your shoulder is love. I love my husband and I'm not entirely certain I could have him reading over my shoulder like this, but for Alistair....I'm certain that adjustments could be made.

Thanks. I didn't even check this site yesterday, so I'm still sitting here stunned that I won.

Love is simple. I think most people believe that love needs to be shown by what you started sketching at first, but in the end love is what always remains before, between and after those moments. Beautifully captured moment, but I especially love the sentiment and idea behind it even more. Good luck in the contest!

Thank you! It's kind of an ongoing theme with these two, I think--they're friends. Even when they screw up their relationship, they're friends.

And we'll see how the voting leans--I'm losing ground right now, but there's still time!

Awww...I voted early on, especially because it takes me a long time to read the fiction and I like to get my voting in at one time. I wish you luck and I am rooting for you! *keeping fingers crossed*

This is just absolutely beautiful...the tender way that Alistair is holding her is just lovely. I could feel the love that flows between the two. I wish I had someone to hold me like that...

Subtle gestures are what ture love and romance is all about. The groping and fumbling is all initial love.
I think this illustrates love perfectly. Its a pretty, touching and initmate scene between them and it almost feels like you're intruding looking a the image.

I love all the little details that you can see. So tiny, but they add a whole other layer to the image. The intricacies of Elissa's amulet are particularly eye catching. :]

Thank you! I've had this one in mind for a while, so I'm very excited that people like the simplicity of it And thanks for noticing the necklace, too--it's actually something important in the story I have going for these two and this was the first time I had a chance to add it

This is so beautiful, Dasque. One of your best, hands down. The lighting is fantastic and you've created such a mood of peaceful contentment... at least until she slaps his hand for turning the page when she's not ready yet.

Thank you! This one amazed me a little bit, because it only took like 10 hours and it worked out so well. Meh. I guess sometimes it's just clearer in my head than it is other times.

This is, quite simply, beautiful. You've done a great job here - it's plain they love being with each other and don't feel the need to be all PDA about it. I love your line about real love - it's so true. :3 Good luck with the contest~

Thank you! I love PDA as much as the next girl, but I really wanted to do a picture like this for the two of them. The idea came to me after a recollection of reading a new release that way to avoid an argument on who got it first. That takes an awful lot of liking each other

Yes. Yes-yes-yes!
This is just perfect - the mood, the look - we can feel they're utterly in tune and at peace with each other. Beautifully done.

This is just perfect. They look indescribably content and happy, relaxed in a way that shows the strength of their love. As a reader, I understand exactly how committed one has to be to let their loved one read over the shoulder. Perfect.

Thank you! I remember hubby and I reading the last Harry Potter that way, since we were battling over who got to read it first. Definitely a sign of commitment.

Are there enough words to describe how sweet and lovely this is? This is SO Alistair and Elissa; so comfortable in each other's company, sharing each other's space so naturally like this. The addition of the book makes it seem intimate and private. Sigh...And I bet he doesn't tell her to 'turn the page already!'

True

Dasque In reply to ExperimentalGerbil [2012-01-13 13:29:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! That's what I was going for--quiet, easy comfort. It's kind of their trademark, I think.

He probably doesn't tell her to turn the page, but I'm sure he's gotten his hand smacked more than once if she wasn't finished
