Personality

Feigning confidence in face of the unknown, Kamuy's inexperience leads him to make decisions quickly, but not always wisely. He displays the noble's charm while unintentionally exposing ignorance in regards to both his position and host herd. Though not always the most level-headed, his upbringing in high society did nurture Kamuy’s skills in diplomacy; he is willing to learn, adapt, and compromise if need be. Even if he isn’t easily dissuaded from his own pursuits. If anything, he is well-versed in the art of throwing around meaningless words that sound important and accomplish nothing in particular.

Reared among politicians, businessmen and scholars, Kamuy is want of little in the realms of resources to satisfy his whims. His pedigree has afforded him the finest in friends and slaves, surrounding the impressionable young lad with a grandeur not afforded by all. His perception of the world is skewed, though not yet to the point of incurable ignorance. He is aware that his life is one of luxury, though perhaps not so informed about what lies on the other side of the proverbial fence. Ever eager to impress, that childish single mindedness is liable to cloud his judgement; he requires strict guidance in the coming years to ensure he becomes a resource, rather than a liability.

Privy to the unstable relationship between his parents from his first years, Kamuy is no stranger to social subtleties, especially those laced with malice. The first to step in when a conversation turns sour, he will try to wield the subject away with varying degrees of success. Not lacking in a child's ability to fan the flames rather than douse them, one should learn quickly to take his words with a grain of salt. Easily riled by personal attacks, the young Envoy has yet to master the invaluable art of compartmentalizing. As of now his pride is delicate; as quick to build as to shatter, the colt would certainly be lost if not for his incredibly unreliable memory. Perhaps his secret saving grace, it isn't uncommon for Kamuy to forget he's been hurt soon after unloading his emotions onto his girlfriend. How exactly the process works, no one is sure; regardless, it enables him to engage in heated arguments, only to shrug off their affects and hold no grudges.

History
The product of an unsteady union, the son of a house undone; a child of both past and future, of which there can only be one.

Reared at the teat of a slave, witness to unrest a life long, Kamuy has lived a life of mixed blessings. His parents were a distant presence in his earliest memory. Castillo always toiling in the library, pouring over records from generations past; Lijiang abroad or in his office, brokering deals overseas for profit; his upbringing was handled by Volskaya, the family's servile slave. It was only when he was able to speak that they began to take interest in him. They treated Kamuy more like a student than a child, finding lectures a more fitting pastime than recreation of any kind.

His family was unique among Aodh's Houses; its several heads kept members in line, but also managed a small menagerie of pursuits including trade which had amassed them quite a pretty little fortune. The struggle for resources between them dominated the family's interests, placing children like Kamuy on the back burner. Perhaps it was this lenience uncharacteristic in a historically strict environment that led to his disinterest in it all. Even more so as he grew and became aware of the dissonance within. Rather than seek the attention of those whose pursuits lay elsewhere, he found solace in the company of Juliet. Older, experienced, and happily married, perhaps Kamuy was defying his father by seeking out her companionship. Originating from Talori, Lijiang had been sure to impart at least some of his values onto his son; monogamy was chief among them, a sentiment with which Castillo did not agree. His own parents were at odds whenever they were together; Castillo's Aodhian inclinations towards hedonism and polyamory standing at unwavering odds with Li's ingrained, reserved, Talorian roots. It wasn't until Kamuy's half brother, Guillard was born from Castillo and Volskaya that occasional arguments became cantankerous uproars.

Li returned home on a permanent basis to restrain what he referred to as his mate's "deplorable lust", though he also intended to consolidate power away from his brother-in-law, Castillo's elder sibling Rialto. As two of the family's heads, they'd long contested whether they should abandon pursuits in Sedo and further their connections in Inaria. With the smell of war wafting across the continent, it was coming time to decide where their loyalties (and their money) were best suited. Though both Serora and Talori fly their banners against Aodh, Li remains adamant that the latter is preferable to the former. To further his own agenda, Li opted to send Kamuy to the king as an Envoy for Talori. He hoped that with his son's excellent breeding and exceptional background that he might find a foothold in the herd that they could leverage to curry favor there. It would be the first time in almost a century that Hydrus contributed a member of its ranks for the herd's benefit.

House Hydrus

Year 1481-1510 - House Hydrus was established as a bloodline to facilitate trade and international/national interests under the crown. It would be during the reign of King Ursula and King Kai that they would start contributing government officials from their ranks.

Year 1510-1539 - Finding little benefit in King Azar's beloved art, the family's heads set about building working relationships with neighboring herds.

Year 1539-1583 - Integrating themselves with what herds they could, the family was inevitably influenced by their beliefs and cultures. Some members chose to remain in their host herds, though they retained their connections with House Hydrus.

Year 1583-1593 - Due to their well-known interactions abroad, the house became a target for King Mishal's Inquisition. Humiliated by the crown's betrayal, many members emigrated elsewhere. What assets the house retained were sent to family in allied herds for safekeeping.

Year 1593-1641 - Under King Edna and with the reparations made, Hydrus returned to its stronghold in Eithne; however they withdrew from government completely, using their positive relationships with other herds to create a thriving market for trade of Aodhian goods.

Year 1641-1676 - While its influence continued to focus elsewhere, the house began to interact more with the middle class. They cared little for the well-being of the herd, or its international appeal.

Year 1676-1689 - Seeking expansion into Inaria, progress was severely hampered by the inhabiting herd's isolationist beliefs. A Talorian Rogue married into the family's ranks, and soon earned himself the position as one of Hydrus' heads. The family flourished during King Solaris' time, taking advantage of the herd's wealth to further pad its own bottom line.

Year 1689-1700 - Hydrus had little faith in the baby king, seeing him as another potential extremist ruler due to his naivete. As a precaution, members limited their interactions with the public in Aodh, especially the government.

Year 1700-Present - Under the more stable rule of King Isador, the family's heads have begun to war among themselves. With war on the horizon and nerves running high, the consolidation of power will either be Hydrus' last hope or its undoing.
