Sorry for the rushed coloring. I wanted to put so much more effort into this, but I have a test today and a paper due before I leave for home. D:

The morning was still and quiet beyond the distant whinnies of well-bred horses and the over-loud crunch of boots in a thin layer of icy snow. I shivered delightedly in the chilliness of the cool December morning as we made our way out into the field where the yearlings pranced.

"So you're interested in Jacky, eh?"

"Chester, too, if I could have my way. We'll see if I can scrape up the funds to bid for both." I grin, my breath turning to fog in the cool air as I hunch my shoulders and feel the fur of my neckline brush my chin and ears.

"Do you plan on racing them?"

I wince. "Honestly, I don't know much about the discipline. I've got some friends I could ask about it, and I've got a half-thoroughbred at home. I guess I always believed the rumors about thoroughbreds being hot-blooded and hard to handle." I take a second to breath as the snow-coated terrain slants up. "Comet's taught me that might not be true, so I thought I'd look into having some purebreds around and really get a feel for them. I'd have to hire somebody to race them, but I'll certainly ride them."

My companion nodded and then stopped, gesturing with one gloved hand to the small herd of yearlings. Among a herd of mostly bays and chestnuts, the glossy black coat of the yearling called Jack stood out in high contrast against the snow. My breath escapes me. The yearlings are beautiful. I quickly locate Chester's funny broken blaze, and find he's standing near Jack.

The owner of the yearlings asked me a few more questions - what my stalls are like, my exercise programs, etc. The yearlings approached curiously while we spoke. Jack padded up tentatively behind me and nibbled the ruff of fur around my neck, and my face breaks out in a grin.

"I hope you have some horse toys at home!" My companion laughs. "He and Chester are both pretty good with their mouths. They'll be bored to death if you don't give them anything to do." I laughed.

"No worries. They'd be well taken care of in my stables. I adore intelligent horses." I smiled over my shoulder and lifted my gloves tentatively as he nibbled. I patted his nose, and he sniffed it before whirling and taking off across the snowy pasture, kicking up his heels and ducking his head.

Uh... yeah.
