Description The case for Batgirl.

Sure, Superman can do just about anything. Boring. Batman? Super rich, if he couldn't beat the bad guy, he could still buy the buy guy. Also, boring. Spider-man? At his best, he was a wise-crackin' teen with real problems. And superpowers. And then he got married and sales dropped because he left school and kids couldn't relate to a middle aged married guy. Boring. Ever see the movie Kick-Ass? It was some big deal because it featured a normal kid dressing up in a silly costume and fighting crime. (Much like "the Phoenix" in Seattle [link] hoo boy) But wait, that's not an original idea at all. Go back to 1964. The police commissioner's young teenage daughter, Barbara Gordon, is inspired by local hero, Batman, to go fight crime with no superpowers or even training. This doesn't make her the best hero, but it does make her one the most like us normal folk. It also (i the hands of a decent writer) the one with potentially the best stories to tell.

For someone who went to school to learn comic art, I hven't done lot of that. This was quicky. Very much inspired by n infamous cover from Batgirl Year One. Drawn on bristol in red pencil. Inked with a Copic marker. Colored in Photoshop.

Good morning mate, I hope you don't mind, but I downloaded your image to use that kick-ass Bat symbol in my latest work. Credit was given as due.

You can see it in the background right here: fav.me/d74mkyj

As for the drawing itself, might I say it looks amazing and captures how epic Barbara Gordon turned out as Batgirl? You've got a good cape swish going on there, drew some nice red hair for her and allowed her to really stand out.

Keep up the great work, buddy!

"Hey! My eyes are up here!!!"

A great rendition of Batgirl I. She might be the "Girl Next Door" but that doesn't stop her from being one of the toughest people in Gotham!

Yeah, I agree, the costumed 'mystery men' vigilantes are, in their own way, far more interesting characters than the meta-powered superheroes. The vigilantes have to develop skills and intelligence to make up for their lack of powers. As you point out, Babs is even more interesting because she (and they later repeated this with Stephanie Brown/Spoiler) got into the game because it was the right thing to do with only the bear minimum of skills and making up the difference as she went along. That is my definition of a hero.

If "The Wayne Protocols" has anything to teach us, it is that, in a straight fight between the Bat-clan and the JLA, the League would probably be beaten before they reached the venue.

Thanks!

I think Stephanie has been a great Batgirl so far, though I preferred Babs as her handler (for lack of a better term), because there was a nice balance there. Still, keeping the secret from Mom, juggling schoolwork, and her kinda crushing on the detective all make for good characterization, too. The potential for stories are limitless because it doesn't take a lot to get in over her hed, and triumphing means all the more without being able to be bulletproof or fly around the world in the blink of an eye. For the record, I didn't hate Cassandra either, but I do prefer Stephanie, but it's still hard to top Barbara Gordon sneaking out of the home of Gotham's top cop to go play vigilante at night!

I never thought of her that way, but you are so right. So why haven't you tackled a clueless teenage super hero comic yourself? Oh wait. That is sort of Ann isn't it? Lol.

Yay I like Batgirl for exactly those reasons. I can't say I like Phoenix Jones though because honestly he sort of frightens me. xD

Yeah, and not frightening in a scary Dark Knight sort of way but scary in a "Um, yeah, okay dude, forget your meds today?" sort of way.

Yes exactly. Like crazy guy who would punch me if I were doing something illegal or even looking slightly sinister!

Do you look slightly sinister? I know I do. Slightly. Maybe I should just stay home.

Beards are pretty sinister. My friend has one, his mom calls him a terrorist, his grandma: the unibomber, and some lady on the street came up to him and said: "Ain't you a scary lookin' motherfucker!"

I don't have a beard.

That would not be right at all.

Between the beard and my last name (which has too many vowels in it for most people's tastes) I can't ride an airplane without getting "randomly" chosen for extra searching. One of these days I'm going to yell, "Silence! I kill you!" and see how many years I can get put away for. (No, I won't really do that, but Phoenix Jones would. You know he would!)
