Description According to an online history I found, this train was built on Feb. 23, 1940 by Hitachi Ryuto and first served Nagiso area stations. It was decommissioned on June 20, 1973. (c5557.kiteki.jp/html/D51351.ht… )
It is a D 51-class 2-8-2 steam locomotive, which wereΒ  ordered by Japan National Railways and were built between 1936-1945. 170 D 51 trains have been preserved.

This train, near Nagiso-eki, marks the starting point of my and my friends walking trip up the Nakasendo to Magome.
