Fun Fact The Deer took a whole day to draw while the BG only took roughly 2 and a half hours.Also all the water is is a gradient with some line ripples.

I honestly doen't know. It was really starting to annoy me too, I think I redrew that damn doe like 5 times before actually liking one, and then it took me 3 refining sketches to get the anatomy/ line work the way I wanted it to.

My line art isn't bad but I suck with color. Usually get a friend to color for me, plus I need good pens. I use ballpoint pens on all my work [link]

lol drawing backgrounds in that style's a lot more easier and faster than you think lol. though it's usually just a matter of knowing what the hell it is you're doing XD

your picture is really amazing but I have to say, the deer ruins it for me
It's just because the backround is really soft and painterly and the deer is colored very sharp and cell shaded and this looks odd to me. I think, the whole picture would look even better, if you would have made the deer in this painterly style, too

No problem at all. This was for a book cover assignment and I also had limited amount of time. So I was originally planing on painting the deer, but every attempt at it turned into disaster so I had to resort to the harsh cell shading look. If I have time I do plan on going back and trying again at a painterly style for the deer.

That background is just so beautiful! The only thing that seems to be off to me is the contrast in styles, the doe has line work and cell shading when the background is painterly but then again I know how much time you had for this. Try doing everything painterly next time when you aren't in a time crunch :3

Wow Dawn this is just...wow. Thats all I can think of to say. This is so beautiful. To think of the way you used to draw backgrounds to what you creat now, just boggles the mind. I thought I was looking at an actual photo for a second there. Thimage is just breath taking, and I'm so surprised with how short a time it took you, it looks like it would have taken you a whole day, but you created it in only a couple of hours. I will never cease to be amazed and inspired by your work. Truely beautiful.
