this beast is NOT an escort it flies right into hell, makes hell look mild by comparison & repeats, who is a heavily armed ATTACK SHIP an escort? escorts protect other more valuable ships like carriers/transport/command ships that can't go it alone.

Which makes no sense, actually.Β In real life, larger ships (even space ships) are faster but less maneuverable than smaller ships.Β This is because increasing the size of an engine does not scale up the same way the rest of the ship does.Β The engines' power increases to a significantly greater.Β The result is making an engine twice the size of another of the same design results in the larger engine producing many times more power than the smaller one despite only being doubled in size.

works for some, but i find the lack of survivablity in the game sucks, too much focus on doing damage and no consequence for being destroyed, in my books a destroyed vessel should not respawn, you break it, you bought it
π: 0 β©: 1
Togo143 In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-08-01 15:14:33 +0000 UTC]
vessels are really easy to destroy though. I always thought that if you died in a mission you had to leave the encounter and re-enter

well for missions its not so bad, but its PVP that gets on my nerves, for escorts its all fun and games don't matter if they get blown apart, but cruisers are kind of the survivalists , would be more useful if ships couldn't just respawn and rejoin the battle, i just thin the games priority on DPS is wrong, theres a reason why the enterprise has always been a cruiser and not an escort

I agree somewhat. (in relation to PVP) You should get only one life in PVP fleet combat.

indeed, but i guess thats what you get in a mmo, people don't much like to have risks,
me i prefer risks, if the rewards are worth it of course , my ideal version of the game would make your ship more durable , but if you have your ship destroyed you get away in a shuttle or escape pod ( incuding your bridge and duty officers)
after this you are informed that your ship has been recovered and towed back to the nearest major base for repairs , but that not all the equipment could be recovered perhaps a random chance of having to pay to repair things like weapons or shields that are rare, or loosing common items
of course that seems a little harsh, but i would make people think twice about running some tiny little ship without any survivability
and of course everything would have o have better rewards given the greater risk, but i believe in order to get the best gear, you should have to take a risk

MarkWilder In reply to chaos-sandwhich [2012-11-15 01:18:26 +0000 UTC]
I would prefer that you dont lose items: it's a ship, not a sack of dropable potions and stuff. Also, ships are ungodly expensive, and you earn them. I'd prefer not to lose a ship, as happens in some MMOs. I also understand that this is supposed tobe a fun game.
My Trekkie Instincts say:
Have the ship be much more durable, and make all ships able to target their weapons onto a system or part. (not just science vessels) If part of your ship is damaged, it can be partially repaired in the mission. If a part of a ship is damaged beyond use, it cannot be repaired outside of a starbase at all.
If the ship is destroyed, you return to Sector Space before the entire mission ever occured. (Similar to the old Star Trek Adventure games) This way, you must finish a mission in one go.
In Player vs Player, the ship is fully repaired after the battle as if nothing happened, unless it was against another faction, *unless* you are a Klingon. (Federation vs Federation would be simulated)
My Gamer instincts say (without changing the Game Engine):
Escorts should be nerfed (weakened) - A LOT. With in-game abilities, a single Defiant or Bird of Prey has enough power to destroy an Odyssey Star Cruiser in one pass. That is too much. They should NEED to rely on their maneuverability and their cloaking devices to avoid damage, and strike in quick, focused bursts with a FEW heavy shots: not just easily blow away flying base-stations in just one salvo and giggle as the other classes watch helplessly as you re-cloak. Escorts should be annoying, not "Holy what the fuck shits?!?! I just DIED at full stats!!!!" Also, give Escrts the ability to target subsystems to compensate.
Science Vessels shouldn't change too much: they should come standard with both pushing and pulling tractor beams, or a powerful "science ability" linked to the ship itself. They should be able to do serious damage to an Escort's functions: Escorts are not built to avoid or withstand a Metryon Beam to the hull: too small to compensate.
Cruisers should have the best standard firepower AND defense overall, and the least maneuverability. One-on-one they should stomp everything except well prepared Escorts (which could possibly strike quickly with a big shot to some subsystem, and then dodge/cloak)
Nerf the "sudden" shield/armor regeneration Bridge Officer Abilities of all types. It's no fun to be blasting a cruiser's shields away and then - BOOM! They're back up again. Like you never did anything. Only Escorts avoid this problem: by killing anything instantly.
Get rid ofthe cloaking firepower bonus. I mean, really. Escorts are the ones that get that the most.

hmm i like the idea of linking certain abilities to the ship, and pretty much everything about the classes i agree with
one thing that has always irritated me is they put the typhoon battleship in the game, yet deny the player use of the only starfleet battleship class
totally agree with escorts being overpowered , at any rate the canon for trek states that they were designed to support smaller unarmed ships like convoys and such, not actually lead the charge
cruisers in the show and movies have always demonstrated the superiority of the larger ship classes, with more power to feed the weapons, they should by rights smash all other opposition
and as far as cannons go, those are ridiculously overpowered because of the boff abilities

well it all gets a bit confusing with the ship classes, particulary the galaxy which had several combat refits, and if those oddys are suposed to be dreadnoughts they are pretty poor for dreadnought standards, but hey whatever
at the end of the day i just play free , so i can't really complain

impressive set up, though i can't say i'm fond of canons, used them a little on my tac officer but never found them that great, but then i've never really found the tac officer that fun, if i'm honest i find sci the most fun type to play
not that i'm saying the others aren't effective, but i find them a little boring after playing them all the way to the top and then running out of new things to do

whats your fav type if you don't mind me asking, i usually just use phasers , but i like to try different stuff on each character, at the moment i'm using plasma beams on a sci ships
i haven't used anti proton before , what do you think of it?
