Description

A little pose-practice on my part... and some magic practice on the part of Retsubnad.

Due to the intense exertion required for this one, Retsy decided to take off his robe to keep cool (though obviously he kept his trousers on)

Thoronraw and Wally look on with their own respective levels of interest and admiration.

Drawn in pencil, then traced and coloured in Clip Studio Paint Pro, this was a chance to try out some features and practice a bit with shading, effects and textures.

Hehe, thanks very much!
Who knows what Retsy has planned now... anything could happen...

Wally: Oh, he did indeed! I must persuade him to try this look more often... gives me something to look at for a start...
Thoronraw: Well, depends on one's preference, of course.

Oh boy, already sounds like a lot of fun.

And don't worry, I'm well aware of my preference, Thoronraw.

Wally: Hehe, yeah...
Thoronraw: *nods tolerantly* Indeed, I'm sure Wally is too. Still, that's your own choices, of course.

Of course, haha. We are what we are.

Thoronraw: Something I have had to accept in my own experience too.

Oh, how so?

DCLeadboot In reply to EspyFur [2020-01-26 16:18:28 +0000 UTC]

Thoronraw: Well, I'm a gryphon. The sort of rare remarkable beast that certain people will exploit for their own pecuniary gain.
That was my own situation in life, until the day Retsubnad came to visit the traveling show I was with. After seeing how shamefully my human captors treated me, he rescued me and looked after me.
That's why I stay with him now, because despite his megalomania obsession, I know deep down that he is good inside.

EspyFur In reply to DCLeadboot [2020-01-26 16:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Aw, that's very sweet!

So... Retsy is a good bad guy, huh? Haha.

DCLeadboot In reply to EspyFur [2020-01-26 19:45:21 +0000 UTC]

Thoronraw: Well, on the sliding scale of villainy, Retsy is not true villain material. He's more like an antihero at best, and a well-intentioned but misguided extremist at worst. A guy who himself has a bad start in life, and does what he does simply to be respected.
From my viewpoint, though, he gets my respect from the good deeds he does without knowing it.

EspyFur In reply to DCLeadboot [2020-01-26 19:57:43 +0000 UTC]

Well that's nice to hear, at least.
What kind of 'good' things has he done?

DCLeadboot In reply to EspyFur [2020-01-26 20:12:34 +0000 UTC]

Thoronraw: Well, saving me is one. Times in our Artist's head canon also finds him teaming with Danbuster against a common enemy... and REAL bad guy, that is. Also, on the quiet, he sells helpful magic potions to a local herbal chemist, which gets him an income.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EspyFur In reply to DCLeadboot [2020-01-26 20:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh, so he makes a fair income? Interesting.

And he saved you? From what?

DCLeadboot In reply to EspyFur [2020-01-26 20:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Thoronraw: Well, how else can he keep his castle going, or buy food? A chap must have money. But at least he earns it honestly.

Oh, I and think I mentioned that. I was an exhibit in a freak as part of a human traveling show. When Retsy see how badly they treated me, it reminded him of his own tough past and he took me from them by force.

True.

And ah, right, I see now.
I'm sure you're very grateful to him.

DCLeadboot In reply to EspyFur [2020-01-26 20:45:27 +0000 UTC]

Thoronraw: I swore my loyalty to him, that's how grateful I was. A gryphon's loyalty is sacred.

Loyalty is a good thing, I'd say.

Just goes to show how dedicated Retsubnad is to his magic. Awesome job on everyone's poses here as well as the background details, the bat-shaped lectern is a very neat addition too.

DCLeadboot In reply to BluebottleFlyer [2019-11-29 09:10:07 +0000 UTC]

Heh, thanks Mark!
Yup, Retsy certainly devotes a lot of timing to better his skills. Wally sure enjoys the show too, while even Thoronraw has to marvel at how his does it.
And indeed, I thought a bat would make an interesting change from an eagle - especially for a megalomaniac wizard...

It was something from the fifth book. I don't want to spoil too much for you if you have not seen it...

Well, guess it's not something I'm likely to read anyway... I was always discouraged from reading books about witches. I never even read that Roald Dahl book, the Witches. ;;

How do you like Clip Studio Paint Pro so far? I bought it myself while it was on sale.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DCLeadboot In reply to FloydKangaroo [2019-11-27 19:43:24 +0000 UTC]

I got it on sale myself, on the recommendation of my good friend AlexRaccoonGlider

It's certainly been serving me well so far, and I really needed a decent replacement since I can't seem to use Photoshop Elements on this laptop any longer.

Learning how to use the brushes, pens and textures a bit at a time, and the fingertip smudger came in useful for texturing my fur and feather shading layers.

Same here. I still need to practice with it and find the right pressure settings.

Thanks for the mention Dan and yeah, I was skeptical about CSP myself but the more I used it, the better I get and it's still serving me very well =3

There are tutorials on yOutube too as well as a good support group.

Woo-WOO! Shirtless Retsy... this is probably the handsomest you've drawn him, to be honest. ^^ So much fluff... Hah, and poor little Wally with his blatant crush and derpy, lovesick expression... At least Thoronraw manages to remain dignified. He also looks rather speculative, but also impressed. X)

Love the detail with the bat on the... what is it? I know what it is, I just don't know what its actual name is!

Either way, fantastic drawing, dude!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2019-11-27 13:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Retsubnad: Heh... why, thanks very much, Kelaiah! I do try to keep myself in good trim.
Wally: Hehe... how can I not be smitten by the sight of my shirtless Master?
Thoronraw: I'm impressed, indeed, but only by my Master's talents. I might love Cornelius, but not the same way Wally does.

You mean the bookstand? Technically, a lectern... but with a bat instead of an eagle.

Again, thanks very much, mate!

You're very welcome, Retsy! X) You do a good job of it, then! As for you, Wally... yeah, you do raise a good point. Heh heh heh, but yes, Thoron, it's probably for the best you don't love Retsy in the same way as Wally does. Things don't need to get more complicated than they already are. ;D

*slaps forehead* YES. Bookstand! Dah! I hate it when I forget the names of common objects, especially when said name is something so simple! Oh well... but yeah, you're welcome!
