AMazing. Really amazing.
Do you began with a grisaille underpainting?

Thank you! For this painting I used a green grisaille; the same technique that I used for "Transitions" which is explained in my blog, [link]

First of all, thank you much for the nice compliment! I use monochromatic under-paintings, usually no more than three colors. This one was done with Viridian Green, and Yellow Ochre, plus black and white to establish the values. Than I glaze over them with multiple layers. I love William Bouguereau, and I have used variations of his technique. I sold this painting for $7,000 shortly after completing it in 2008.

Please a pair of questions: you use oil glazes or thin opaque layers wet in wet?
It is a method of layers? Or it is direct painting?
Thanks for the answers!

dcrivera In reply to aelivs [2007-06-08 17:18:12 +0000 UTC]
I use a combination of both glazes, and direct painting. I usually do a very detailed monochromatic under-painting, which then gives me the freedom to experiment with glazes, and scumbles. I allow some areas of the under-painting to come through, and other areas (particularly in the lights) I build up opaquely with many thin layers.

Thank you very much your advice has been very useful!, please recommend me a Web page or book to learn more on the subject (photografic realism in oils).
