It's good to hear that you like the armor and that it's also somewhat lore-accurate. As said I modeled the armor according to the game design but made few modifications as well. Like that leather hip guard and plume on the helmet. I also chose to have that two handed axe because my dragonborn Ingred used that at the moment. So it wasn't really an "issued legion weapon" but more like some individual "dragonborn-legionnaire" weapon. I gather that dragonborn would be also allowed to have some freedoms which the discipline of the legion would deny from the ordinary rank and file men (or women).

I would not be surprised if there were minor variations in legion issued armor in the Lore, specially since Skyrim’s legions are closer to an organized militia (legate Rikke tells the Dragonborn she wants to know if he/she is not regular militia material, and dialogue with legates reveals that most of the Legionnaires are loclaly recruited thanks to the lack of reinforcements from Cyrodiil).
But just to get deeper into the armor: “Legion soldiers gleam like fresh fallen snow and clank like a kitchen. They head this way, we’ll know it”- generic stormcloak dialogue, directly implies that many, if not most legionnaires use heavy/plate armor.
"Light armor for scouting detail, heavy armor for full on combat, or something in between?"- Beirand’s possible dialogue if you ask him to give you the proper outfit after joining the legion, is you ask “What?” when he asks wich type of armor you want.
We can also see legionnaires from Skyrim using plate armor in many TES Legends cards, most of them part of the Heroes of Skyrim expansion, and in the Tullius’ Conscription card, that is part of The Forgotten Hero collection.

Haven't really went so deep in the lore of Elders Scrolls (beside the games) but what you said about local recruits /militia seems fairly reasonable. Although in real history militia personnel seldomly had plate armors. Then again legion, even if militia based in Skyrim, is highly organized and therefore can supply its troops better.

We actually do have evidence that not all of the imperial militia infantry uses plate. Beirand says that your first set is free (after all the imperials are all about govrnemnt military, where the state is in charge of most of the equipment), but he says that you will need to pay to repair or for another set. As the vast majority of the recruits are simple folk, such as farmers, the vast majority can not afford the repairs (altough I would say most of them die before they get a really damaged equipment).
We also see some front line imperials using less plate in TES Legends.

"To protect and cover". Yes, that is the basic principle why armors started to exist in the first place. I don't claim that all my armor designs (or armors which I prefer to draw) would always be practical but at least those usually meet the "protect and cover" requirement. Armors can be made to look good or (in case of females) to have some feminine touch but not by shrinking those to bikinis which will reveal all vital body parts. I have always found that to be ridiculous.
Tolkien never descriped those armors of his very thoroughly. He mainly spoke only about mails and hauberks and left the details out. But clearly the (chain)mail was what he had in mind.

Looks like you and have as much interest in realistic looking armor as me. Now how about weapons? Are you two interested in the polearms of Tamriel?

Like said, we haven't really been in touch besides these few comments here. But about that question of yours... It has been some time since I played Skyrim intesively and as I have always liked to play more "sword and shield" warrior than use two handed weapons I can't say much about those in Skyrim. Logically axes and hammers should be "top heavy" as the weight and "energy" are concentrated on the head of the weapon. Therefore those should be also more difficult and slow to swing and control than for example two handed swords which have more balanced weight distribution. What little I remember about that in Skyrim, it seemed to work somewhat OK.

I will not speak for DeepWood, simply becoz I don't know him that much....
But the question seemed to be asked to both of us so.....
I'Ll be sincere, It could be better, buts its not that bad. For a game weapons, they don't necessarily need to be EXTREMELY realistic, but they must be really LOGIC.
Hammer hare bigger and heavier, so its normal that they swing slowly and are hard to control ounce you swing. Wich is how it work in the game.
Dagger are smaller, light and its wayyy easier to control since its less heavy, wich is also how it work in game. So I guess weapons in the game are somehow ok.
There are weapon, like the Daedric artifact, that I'm not sure how to feel about. Since a big hammer like Volendrung who swing like a great sword but should clearly be heavier becoz of his size, but at the same time, its has been blessed but a entity that live in a world completly different from tamriel....
But execpt this, I think in general the game is no that bad. But I agree to say there could be stuff that could be better. :/

I see. Well (before anything, citating ) I was actually talking about polearms that we do not see in game, but that are everywhere in the Lore. Take a look:
en.uesp.net/wiki/Legends:Tulli… en.uesp.net/wiki/Legends:Ulfri… en.uesp.net/wiki/Legends:Fearl…
But regarding the Daedric artifact, it may be a mix of non lore friendly game mechanics and lore aspects (again: may be), but the Lore is certainly important regarding the artifact because after all it is a supernatural one, and the essence of the supernatural is what is beyond nature as we know it. So it may not be absurd from a Lore point of view to swing such a humongous hammer fastly if it the daedric lord made it unnaturally light (and we also have the enchantment).
But just to not waste the opportunity: recently a mod has been added to the nexus called Animated Armory (www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/… ) and it effectively adds pikes, halberds and rapiers to the game. It has also compatibility files to Heavy Armory and Immersive Weapons.

Most Dragonborns (Dragonborns? Dragonborn? Dragonborni? Whatever.)
"I've murdered innocent people. I've pickpocketed beggars. I've sacrificed friends' lives for a piece of armor. I killed a priest in Whiterun because I found him annoying. I've sold my soul to countless demon gods for shiny trinkets. I'm the head of two crime organizations."
But the ONE THING that I will NOT tolerate is Ulfric."

Well, almost all my dragonborns have joined empire. One reason is that I am very much pro empire like. I was already in Morrowind.
I must also admit that I don't like Ulfric (or Stormcloaks) very much either.

I am very much pro empire, so slmost all my playing characters have joined the legion. Ingred here was a Nord and as she thought all Stormcloaks to be traitors, she was quite merciless towards them.
Thanks for the comment.

Don't forget during "season unending" when elewen is chosen to stay, after she says "its not the thalmor who's killing ur sons of skyrim" rikke replies "wait she's supposed to be on our side?" which means 1. The empire dosnt know how the thalmor are treating talos worrshipers 2. Rikke was smart enough to hear something suspicious.
Also at the end of civil war Tulius said he would respect the Nord traditions even though he wont understand them

Eh... sorry but I am a bit confused what exactly you are trying to point with your comment here.
If you are just trying to say that empire is not evil... I totally agree.

Argoniandrake27 In reply to DeepWoodian [2013-11-19 18:18:20 +0000 UTC]
Well I'm talking about two evidences
1. Rikke got suspicious at Elewen comment during "season unending" if u let her stay listen to rikke closely and shell ask "she's supposed to be on our side"
Evidence 2. After the civil war for legion Tulious will respect the Nord even though he'll never understand them lol
New evidence 3. Rikke makes a random comment saying "if ulfric wasn't so lustful of power he could have seen we are in the same side"
Final evidence is the high elf legate of riften telling u that he was charged by the emperor himself to spy on the Thalmor
So there's a whole alot of evidence of good within the legion

Yeah, I somewhat understood that you wanted to point out that empire and legion are not evil and just try to keep the empire together. And I agree.
The thing which made me a bit confused was that your first comment wasn't an exact response to any of my staments in the picture description or any of the comments made by me or others. That's why it was a bit hard to put your comment to any context first. But case is cleared now.

Only reason I never wanted to join the Imperials was because of the fact, They tried to execute you! I feel like Skyrim would go downhill with the Empire ruling. I also adored Ulfric's voice xD But alas, everyone has opinions, this is an amazing piece of artwork :3

I only joined the stormcloaks cause I like the thought of rebellion. But afterwards I realized I caused more damage than I thought... I look at Ulfric now as a power-hungry fool that just wanted his way and now I'm going around killing stormcloaks. I may be the most hated person for killing random people in Skyrim now after all I've done but hey, I'm just killing Stormcloaks, nothing wrong with that eh? :3
