I seem to love my male characters more than the females, seeing as Yuki is my favorite, followed closely by this adorable little fuck here (and Jackson rounding out the top three). But anyway, this is my newest character who was inspired physically by Gray and Oreki (along with my own ideas), and inspired personality-wise also by Gray and Oreki, along with a bit of Haru and some of my own ideas. He goes along with Hanabi in their original story (while Hanabi is also a fancharacter of sorts, River is not, but she is a main character in their story). He's also an AU version for Empyrean Academy, since I removed Yuki and Serah and needed new characters.

*And I just realized River looks super young in this which was just an accident, I swear. He's about 16-17 in this picture (started smoking when he was about 14-15).

Physical Description: Fairly tall with a medium build. He is very toned, though not overly muscular. His arms are slightly long, his torso falling into a more 'average' category – not long or short. His face falls somewhere between a round and oval shape, his eyes almond shaped with a medium lid – people say he either always looks tired or like he's glaring at people because of his eyes. His hair is unruly with bangs that hang around his eyes. He tends to walk with slightly slouched shoulders, and slumps when he sits.

River comes off as a very passive person, considering how laid-back he is around others, but he can be quite aggressive when need be. He can be very harsh with his words and it often gets him into trouble, and often results in fights. He has a bad habit of looking for a fight sometimes, and he never backs down from one – and his abrasive personality tends to rub people the wrong way. Although overall, he is a calm, “cool” person who doesn't like to get involved in things that he finds to involve “too much effort”. A lazy person, he always tries to find a way out of doing something that doesn't interest him. If he can't, he always finds the most effective, quick way to accomplish something - this excludes things he's interested in, such as swimming.
River is clever and intelligent and manages to pass his classes very easily without much effort. If he actually applied himself, he would be a straight-a student. He can be unknowingly pretentious with his intelligence, not always understanding that things don't come to others as easily as they do to him. He doesn't speak much, though and rarely shows any kind of enthusiasm or interest. On of the few things he will expend energy on is swimming. He loves to be in the water.

-Cryokinesis: Able to control and create ice and snow (due to Skadi's association with winter). He's able to do any things with this, from small ice projectiles to large blizzards as he grows in strength and learns to control his abilities better.
-Cold Air Manipulation: Along with his ability to create ice and snow, he also has some control over the air temperature around him. It doesn't always stretch far and tends to expand just to around 20 feet out at most. He has trouble with this one and will often drop the temperature around him when his emotions fluctuate (when angry, sad, frustrated - mostly just negative emotions).
-Hunting: An exceptionally skilled hunter with slightly greater sight and hearing than the average human (due to Skadi's association with hunting) - some days, this is actually too much for him and will give him very bad migraines and he becomes overly sensitive to light and sound (these days he tends to just lay in bed all day if he can).

Weaknesses: Defense (a combination of his style of getting in close and his lack of shielding), agility (though he's fast, it's more in the sense of long-distance running and such), his powers require a lot of energy and using them a lot can tire him out quickly, not the best with close combat (though he is a good fighter when it comes to hand-to hand, that really only applies with human opponent. Set him up against a monster with the range that his bow affords him, he's pretty useless (doesn't carry a close-combat weapon))
Fatal Flaw: His protective side. When those close to him are around, he will protect them with his life. He would never forgive himself if a friend gets hurt and he could have prevented it – even if it means taking a blow for them. It would also be pretty easy to use one of his friends against him (i.e. snatch up Hanabi and threaten to hurt her, his weapon is thrown aside immediately). Even if he's not close to someone, he doesn't like to see others get hurt.

Background
River was born a middle child in a family with six children (he has three brothers and two sisters). The family spent their whole lives in the same house in San Diego, California. His mother, Summer was always a bit of what you would call a 'hippie'. She was a free spirit and River always found her a little odd, though he still loves his mother and is very close with her. Growing up, River was always a quite child, spending a lot of his time shut away in the bedroom he shared with his younger brother, Ember. Even in school, River kept to himself for the most part, though he did have a good amount of friends and enjoyed their company.
River first encountered his abilities when he was five years old. His neighbor had a cat that ran away one day and River found it easy to track where it was going, able to hear it's meow when he was far from it. It freaked him out, his strange hearing, when he would bring things up and find no one was able to hear them. He was able to hear things like planes high above them, their neighbor hitting his wife, or thunder crashing long before a storm him them. River hated it and managed to train himself to turn down his hearing when it would happen.
When River was seven, he and his brother, Ember got lost in the woods when their parents took the family camping. They wanted to go on an adventure, but ended up lost long into the night. It was the first time River found he could see in the dark as well as he could during the day. He could notice a lot of little things in the woods around him – broken twigs where deer passed, small animals darting through the brush, and even their footprints in the dirt. When he was eight, he grew angry with his younger brothers and froze their feet in a puddle of rain water. Other times, he would press his fingertip to a window and watch as frost spread out from his touch. People would often say the air felt colder around him, especially when he was angry.
When he turned twelve, a woman came to his house representing the Empyrean Academy. She told his parents it was a prestigious place that prided itself in accepting only the best. According to her, they were recruiting River because of his academic potential and that his knowledge would be honed and improved at their school. After some consideration, they agreed to let River attend the school.
