Description This is a commission from the same customer that ordered the lying black & tan bunny I posted some days ago. But this one was supposed to stand on its back feet :3

I really like the fur pattern.

WIP - has still all wires, clay and needles! Will be removed as soon as it's dry!

It's so realistic!
I think if you remove the needles, it runs away! = O

You know, I was curious; why do you leave the wire through the feet through the drying process? Isn't it harder to try and cut the wire flush with the feet once it dries than if it is cut at the time of mounting? I've seen several people do this and I was wondering if there is some sort of benefit to this?

Uhm...I think I don't understand completely what you mean.
I leave the wires in until the bunny is completely dry, because it helps keeping the position. If I cut them away at the beginning the bunny couldn't stand like this D:
And also I leave them in if the customer decides to have the animals mounted on a board or something, for that I need the wires too :0

Oh, I meant the ones particularly coming out from the front feet (the non-weight bearing feet). I'm just curious why you decide to cut the extra length of wire off of the front feet after it dries, isn't it hard to cut the wire flush to the feet without having it be visible or damage the toes when trying to snip the wire once the mount has dried? Maybe because it's such a small wire it's not as hard as I'm making it out to be. lol

Haha aaahh okay. Now I understand
Uhm, you're right, the wires on such small animals are pretty thin and it's not a problem to bend them a little and snip them off even when the feet have dried already. I don't even touch the toes really. The wire comes out of the middle of the paw. I never had troubles cutting them off after the animal has dried!
So yeah...but particularly in this standing position the wires in the front feet also help me to keep the bunny in the correct position because I also stick them into the polystyrene board :0

Ahh! Gotcha, that makes sense now! Thank you! The wires that come in some of our foam forms over here are so thick and heavy I've got to cut them off of the non-weight bearing feet before I mount the skin on it, otherwise I find it so hard to cut them once the mount dries without either messing up the mount or not being able to cut it close enough. I'm working on a lifesize goat kid right now that I'm having that problem with. lol

Yeah I can imagine how hard that is
But I never worked on SUCH a big animal nor did I work with any foam form.

I am having an axis deer calf skin that I have no measurements of and I think that will become the first mount I do where I have to use a foam form. I am really a little afraid to order the form cause I don't know how to work with it and it's pretty expensive. I am afraid I will mess it up and then I bought that expensive thing for nothing

lol, I still get nervous working with foam forms. I'm afraid I will pay all that money and mess up the anatomy when I got to alter it, lol. Just take your time and really study the anatomy. Don't rely on the form's anatomy because in many cases they are incorrect and you will need to make adjustments. Do you have to import a foam form or can you get them within the EU?

Hm....oh my D: Now I am even more nervous, haha.
I can get a form for a normal deer calf here, not particularly an axis deer calf...but I think there won't be much difference. There are only 4 or 5 different forms for deer calfs but not any specific species. :0

Don't worry too much, lol. If you have access to 2-part foam, you can always rebuild if you mess up. Good luck & have fun!
