description :This graphic novel is a personal project made aside from my daily work as an illustrator. I posted it around 1 month ago on my blog, and it was too long to be uploaded to deviant art with the limitation of 18 000 pixel heigh. So, it took me time to find on Linux a way to make *.swf flash page with free tool. Thats why I post it only now. (btw, not sure if other poeple can read it, I sooo hate flash technology ! always more or less buggy and laggy on Linux ... but no other choice ... )
About the comic :
I tried to depict in it a difficult theme but a one witch is close to my heart : the way children are affected by a negative ambient at home, and social difficulties they can endure in consequences. I'm always shocked when I meet parents who send unconsciously their violence, pessimism or sadness to their children. This novel is not really a mental answer to it, just a heart reaction.
I learned a lot of things while writing and drawing this one. About myself and about my technics. It was done using only free and open sources software on Linux ( Krita , Mypaint and Gimp ). For the *.swf , it was done with the freeware Wink running under Wine.

Yep, I totally know how this child feels, all the time. It's such a dark world we live in, but eventually, one just has to accept it as part of nature. Only then could we really appreciate the prettier things.

Soy docente... y evaluaba la situación de mis estudiantes en el hogar... a través de sus dibujos... y su realidad queda reflejada en sus obras inocentes... ya que los niños son sinceros... a la hora de expresar sus sentimientos... We hear a lot of talk about how "resilient" children are, when in fact kids are incredibly fragile. Every harsh word from a parent, every casual cruelty from a classmate, every rudeness by shopkeepers and passersby, every unrequited young love: they all leave scars that may NEVER show but ALWAYS hurt.
And please note that I am speaking only of the things an average childhood brings. I won't even get into the damage done to kids who are starved, beaten, burned with cigarettes, molested and raped and sold into slavery or prostitution by the parent or guardian most responsible for keeping those children safe. We all claim to KNOW how evil THOSE things are, but the more pedestrian pains every kid experiences? We tend to slough those off as unimportant. We tell the child "Grow up! Get over it!" as if it's easy. It's not easy. It's like trying to dance with a badly set broken leg - we may be able to dance, but it hurts a LOT, and we're never as graceful as we might have been had the break been properly set.
The more "successful" among us learn to cover up and dissemble and never let anyone see our pain. The rest of us do our best with whatever coping mechanisms we learned as children - bulimia, anorexia, self-harming, substance abuse, promiscuity, violent criminality, depression and rage - or, if we're lucky, somewhat BETTER mechanisms picked up as we come of age, whatever those might look like (and I don't pretend to know what anyone else might need; just what has worked - to some degree - for me in my life).
All that is prelude to saying that I truly SEE the child in your story - how she struggles and how she manages. You've done a masterful job of presenting that in a simple, wordless and yet incredibly evocative and powerful way. Artistry aside (and the art is just flat AWESOME) you are a wonderful teller of tales. Thank you for what you do. I wish you well. I wish you joy.

It does feel that way. When there is negativity, extreme or not, but it does make yuo feel there is something in the air that puts pressure in your heart. Making all the beauty and colors go away.
