this one really grabbed me! love the colours, the contrast & the mood! Quick practical question: what sort of paper do you paint on?

Thanks. This one was on standard Xerocopy 3 (common printer/copy quality) paper. I used to only use canvas paper (Canson or some other brand) when not using canvas or board, but lately I have been experimenting with whatever paper I can find. Please note, it totally changes the way the paint applies and how it can be 'worked'. That's part of the fun for me; experimenting with the support as it interacts with the oil and mediums. The unfortunate part is that nothing done on these cheap papers will ultimately last very long. As well, the colours go flat quickly as the oil in the paint is absorbed. I'm going to experiment with some different things to see if I can achieve some sort of varnish effect...

i only ask because i do the same thing: experimenting with oil on paper, that is!
I love the way oil paint behaves on bristol paper, but like you say: it won't last forever!
i quite like arches Huile paper, but sometimes i use marker pens as well as the oil, and they go on very much like water colours rather than markers when using huile paper. which means you have to draw differently & re-learn a few techniques!
