Description Well...

Thought I'd try something completely different so this is my first attempt at vectoring.
It was done in Photoshop so I'm not too sure if (technically) it counts as real, proper, full on vector art as I don't think it's infinitely resizeable as it was done in Photoshop, and it's probably rasterized. I should know what that means but I don't. I shall learn later because I enjoyed doing this and would like to do some more, making sure I do it properly and that it's not rasterized. No.

It took a VERY long time, roughly three days on and off with stops inbetween to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 as my eyes were burning due to staring at the screen really closely whilst doing it.

I worked from a Poser render and as I'm quite chuffed with the result I'm considering doing a colour-fetish-rubber-pvc type series, depending on how much free time I have at the moment.

Anyways, I hope it's acceptable as vector art and I hope y'all enjoy it now.

Thank you for looking.

Oh, and FULL VIEW if you please. Looks better.

You can see the fullsize version here [link] so you don't miss out on all the blimming TINY details that I put it in that get lost when it's resized down. I had to cut off the text/border to get it under 10 megapixels.

Stupid megapixels.

This is a gorgeous piece.
now, is it or isn't it vector.
I'm looking for vectors.
if you can't resize, it's no vectors.
Period.
To have vectors in PS is possible, but awkward, becasue pixel based apps.
So, did you sue the tool pen, did you work out of the pixel work or not.
That's what will determine teh type of work it is.
If it is vector, tehn this is an absolute amazing piece.
if it's pixels, tehn it is a truly gorgeous pievce, but not as powerful to me.
Either way anyway, you win!
Please, let me know if you figure out if it's a vector piece or not, in a positive case, i would liek to display your work on my journal.
Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my work, I really appreciate it

After some discussion with others I've now ascertained that yes, this is a vector piece as it was done entirely with the pen tool in Photoshop, each and every shape was plotted, has it's own layer and so on.

So yes, this is a vector piece.

I enjoyed doing it tremendously and am now working on a new vector piece which has a lot of hair in it.
Ahh for thousands of tiny vectored strands!

You are more than welcome!

So, great great vector piece man!
You're going straight in my journal!

yea, vectors are amazing.
it shows you enjoyed it, beacsue it shows all teh time, and effort and talent put into it.
it just shows man!

Now, hair in vector is one of the most enjoyable thing to do, becasue of the freedom of curves you can have.
me love drawing hair in vector, he he he.....

Now, you should, I mean, you must switch to illustrator man!
PS is extremely limited with vectors.
Illus is nothign else but vectors.
Can you get your hand on Illustartor man?

And I love your icon, absolutely love it man!
Keep up the amazing work!
keep me informed.
Check my gallery if you feel lie it, a fair amount of vector work's in there.
Check my journal, some amazing vector work from amazing DA artists are being displayed.

And draw draw draw!!!!!
Cheers man.
Good talkign to you.

givorden2 [2005-01-31 10:48:35 +0000 UTC]

ok this is not a vector.

but full credit for the piece anyways coz it looks bloody awesome.

raster is dealing with pixels
vector is dealing with paths - hence the infinitely resizable aspect.

to make a vector art you would have drawn each one of the coloured shapes one by one line by line

example [link]

congrats on an awesome piece

Ahh I understand now (I think!).

In that case, this actually is vectored. Every single shape in this was created individually using the pen tool in Photoshop.
There's a slight screen/blur thing going on with a filter and a drop shadow added so it doesn't look as clean as it could and I definitely need more practice at this.

I certainly have newfound respect for vector artists now I've tried it, as it was one of the most time consuming and fiddly things I've done, but also very relaxing and I'd like to experiment more with the style.

And... it's fun to see exactly how many shapes it takes to make a picture. This was roughly 10,000 including the areas I went over twice because I forgot that I'd lowered the opacity earlier. D'oh.

hehe

you should try using a program like illustrator or freehand to create one next time.

its a lo more versatile

I'm going to be messing about with all the damn expensive graphic programs I've got to find out which works best.

Should be fun.

That's just some insane detail on this vector. My fav part is the contrast between the pvc on her pants and her boots.

That is awsome! I can't do digital art to save my life! you are very skilled, the shading and shine is astounding, does she have a plastic mask on? I love her arm positions, just a wonderful picture!

demonika In reply to Werebeast [2005-01-31 02:46:58 +0000 UTC]

Yus, she does have a plastic mask on. It's kinda hard to tell because of the loss of detail when it's resized down. Stupid resizing. Stupid down.

I'm kinda hoping to sort out a print account one of these days so I'm trying to remember to keep all the original images at their original LARGE size.

I'm hoping that inspiration for the next vector piece will smack me in the face soon so if you like you can suggest the next colour?
