Meet Lo, the third installment to my series of shark maidens. Her name, Lo, is a modification of the species name Charcharinis (lo)ngimanus, the Oceanic Whitetip Shark, for which she is modeled after.

Lo was placed in charge of guarding the rims of the islands shelf, an area where shallow water ends and deep water begins. She is an embittered and jaded individual, who was manhandled and nearly killed by human fishermen when she was just a pup. Vowing never to trust and beings of the terrestrial realm, and angered by the sympathy her sisters have for humans, she is a loner. Never one to trust anyone or anything, she will attack anything that she presumes to be a threat (this attitude has also been modeled after the oceanic whitetip sharks which can be HIGHLY aggressive). She does have a soft spot in her heart, however, which is brought out by a certain……nah….I’ll tell you later!

Her weapon of choice a modified short spear called an Ihe. The end pointing toward her tail is actually the front of the weapon, made for stabbing action, while the butt end, lined with shark teeth is meant to whack and rip simultaneously. The weapon looks crooked….because it is! Generally these spears were not meant for throwing, and therefore, not made perfectly straight. Slight curve would give the weapon a little extra force in forward thrust motions. Not something you want to be on the receiving end of.
