indeed. They could all have continued flying until 2022, I hope a company gets one flying for airshows as I've heard one might

2022? dammit, it still had time to fly, its a shame concorde was grounded from the skies

yeah, they had plenty of time to go after being upgraded after that Air France crash. They were retired because September 11 meant they lost all passengers and their engines burnt alot of fuel and cockpit was out-dated.

i thought the concorde was discontinued partly because civilians were annoyed by the sonic booms it created and partly because it was not fuel-efficient at sub-sonic speeds.
anyways, this is a nice picture. you did very well with the proportions, especially considering that foreshortening that distinct profile is rather hard. the nose would be a little confusing if i didn't already know what a concorde looked like, though. perhaps a little shading would help there?

Yeah. Those were reasons as well for its retirement. Another was their out of date cockpits with avionics from the '60's. It would have been too costly for airlines to upgrade them to current standards.

yeah. Would have been great to fly in one if you could afford it...

and i wonder if you could hear the sonic boom from inside the plane? i don't think you could because you'd already be past the source of it and you're going faster than the soundwaves. it would be SOOO COOOOL to go faster than the speed of sound, just once!

Well, in fact they had at least two accidents I remeber of... and there's also the Tu-144 (Tupolev) which is a civil aicraft with very similar (but not identical) shape. The Tu-144 was mainly used for cargo but it did flew some passenger flights.

yeah, i rember there was the TU-144. That one had two fatal crashes which ended it's production. The concorde only had one fatal accident, that one in Paris.
