The worst thing is that some problems look easy from the outside but they're so damn difficult when you're inside. So people from the outside don't make an effort to understand.
Also, some problems seem small when you're an adult but when you're a child, they're relatively much bigger.

This does help to rinse out the bad friends though.

My in-laws don't even bother. When I complained about the cost of therapy, they were like, "Well you all can afford it so I don't see why it's a problem". Yes, we can afford it by tightening the belt literally EVERYWHERE ELSE. Why should we even have to do this? Why is our healthcare so fucking broken? Why do I have no right to vent about stuff like this? "Oh it'll pass" or "Smile, you're at church!" I thought church was supposed to be the place where you can NOT smile and it's okay. I thought it was supposed to be okay to...you know, NOT be okay, at church. Ah well. I know better than to try and impose an actual set of expectations on religious people these days.

Perhaps this is when one simply needs to slow down,
Rather than try to "fix the problem quickly" with such responses as "It's just a phase" and the like.
A simple "I hear you (but I might not fully understand your problem)" might have sufficed.
Or maybe exploring what he said with "Why do you feel sad?" or "Why do you find socialization difficult" might have helped too;
It would at least show that one is interested in getting to understand this problem of depression better...
...Even if one cannot offer any solutions to it.

Yeah, they were quickinto using the cards for "we won't invest on helping you, your problem is not signinficant" even though they have no idea of even why it is happening.
Great job, people!
