Description

“… When were you going to tell me?”
“Sooner than this had I realized. Silly, isn’t it? This isn’t my first time, but it took your uncle asking me about it for me to go see Doctor F and really be sure.”
“You could have told me sooner. You aren’t even eggbound anymore.”

Persephone sighed as she looked down at the egg, nestled safely in her pouch. K’un was right, she of course could have told her once she had gotten it confirmed by Doctor F, but she hadn’t. She had even had the egg a while ago,  but hadn’t had the nerve to tell her daughter. The little brown egg stood out compared to her golden yellow coloring. It wasn’t at all like when K’un’s egg was in her pouch. Persephone could still remember the little yellow egg, blending in perfectly with her fur.

“I heard you were in magic class. I didn’t want to bother you.”
“You told me, we were family again. Family shouldn’t keep a secret like this. Don’t you think I would want to know?” K’un snapped back. Persephone couldn’t help but flinch a little, but her daughter was right after all. She watched as K’un sighed, and shook out her fur, to try and keep calm. Another reason why it had taken so long for Persephone to tell K’un about her egg.

“You’re keeping this one, aren’t you?” The lion gro asked. Persephone knew that question was going to come eventually, but she still wasn’t really prepared for it.
“… It’s different this time. Please understand K’un.” Persephone asked.
“No, I understand. After all, whoever the father is of this egg, you actually like him, don’t you?” K’unlun asked. Persephone could hear the bitterness in her voice. It was there with good reason. Persephone couldn’t deny that K’un still had every reason to hate her, even if she would insist she didn’t.

“I probably have loved the man who’s the father, since I learnt how to read. We were friends as wynglings in the nook, and I guess it was mutual for him.” Persephone confessed. “He’s a good man, and I know he will love the baby. When I… Last time it was very different.” Persephone shuddered. She was a lot better, but she still couldn’t really talk about K’un’s father. Though she loved K’un with all her heart, there were moments, even if only for a second, where she saw him in her daughter’s eyes. K’unLun was a warrior. A powerful fighter who had grown so much on her own, and through her struggles had become a gro Persephone was so proud of. She knew her daughter was nothing like her father, but she had been so scared when K’un hatched…

“I am not mad. Just so you know, I’m not mad at you.” K’un mumbled, which pulled Persephone out of her thoughts. She looked back at her daughter, and could see that she was staring at the egg. “I just… I wish you had felt the same way about me.” Persephone didn’t miss the hurt in K’un’s voice, or how quickly she looked away to try and hide the tears that were threatening to escape.

Persephone quickly stood up, and rushed to pull K’un in close to hug her. A small gasp escaped K’un, but she quickly hugged Persephone back. Even if her daughter wasn’t a wyngling anymore, Persephone held her, and gently rocked with her. Even if their time together had been short, she hadn’t been cruel. Persephone had kept K’un in her pouch, fed her, and rocked her to comfort her when she had cried after she had hatched. She hadn’t ever asked, but she did wonder if K’un could remember any of that. The two of them stayed like that for a little while longer.

“K’unLun, don’t ever think I regret having you. You’re my daughter. I will always love you. I know you may not understand, but I gave you up because I wanted you to have a good life, and I didn’t think you would have one with me. I should have gone to the nook though, I should have gone to make sure you were happy. That’s still all I really want for you. To be happy, and to know you are chasing your dreams, whatever they may be.” Persephone explained before gently booping the top of her head.

"I love you too, Mom." K'un mumbled into Persephone's shoulder. The two gros stayed like that for a long time, just enjoying the warmth and love the other gave.
