............................................................

A young woman, left alone on the plains by the death of her husband, is out feeding her pig on her family farm. As she stands in the pigpen, grain bucket in hand, she catches a glimpse of a shadow in the distance. Looking up she sees a silhouette of a rider coming her way...trouble on the horizon. Even the pig looks up from its muddy pen and gazes towards the approaching figure. The widow draws her gun, ready to let her colt revolver send a greeting to the ominous stranger.

I was in the mood to do another Wild West themed work. This time, I was really into getting those deep earth tones for the color. The mud was rather fun to do.

Note: This image uses purchased content. Tools used to construct the scene: poser, zbrush, and vue. Final rendering was done in Vue 9 and took about 14 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.

This really has the quality of those old westerns in the viewpoint and set up of the scene. The mud looks wet and squelchy and the gathering clouds add a slightly menacing touch. Truly beautiful scene. Only thing that slightly bothers me is that I feel her dress is a little too low off the shoulders

Hope we get a follow up. Maybe the stranger is a nice guy

Great work this - nice suggestive of the story in hand. Good work with the mud - splattering on pig and dress.

it reminds me of the days when my parents were young. My dad use to visit a bank robber when he was a kid, and my grandfather tracked a man by horse back for insulting my grandmother, but the sheriff shot him an hour before my grandfather got to hillsboro, tex. It was rough back then. There are so many stories I have learned from my dad. His brother changed a flat tire for bonnie and clyde, my grandmother let the kids play hookie every year for two weeks and they traveled by covered wagon. They camed by the river. Its so interesting how different it was back then. You brought back many memories.
