Prints: daniel-eskridge.artistwebsites…A pair of hippos look right at you. They are almost completely submerged beneath dark waters, but their eyes and snouts have broken the surface, and now they are moving in your direction. Be careful, hippos are dangerous!
Even though they are herbivores, hippopotamuses (or should that be 'hippopotamii'?) are one of the most dangerous animals on earth. If you exclude disease-carrying bugs and parasites, then hippos are the fourth deadliest animal behind snakes, dogs, and crocodiles. The male hippopotamus is very territorial and will attack anyone wandering too close, while the female hippo will aggressively defend its young.

Sad story, some folks I know were on honeymoon safari, and were boating. The bride let her arm dangle in the water, and lost it to a hippo. It's true about the danger.

There is at least one video, taken at night, of a male hippo feeding on the carcass of another dead hippo (in the wild). There have been other reports of hippos scavenging other dead animals as well, so hippos aren't strict vegetarians.

My neighbour had an awesome story about feeding hippos at a zoo. The thing opens its trap, you throw a haybale in, thing snaps its trap shut rather loudly and when it necks opens, haybale is gone.
