A Jaguar stalks out of the dense forest towards you. This third largest of the great cats is a lethal hunter. It's gleaming eyes fix on you as it prepares to pounce on it's prey.

Whenever I travel with my family, we always check out any zoo that might be at our destination or on the way.  Years ago, we were in Toronto and decided to visit the zoo there.  It was huge, but what I remember most was the Jaguars.  They were one of the most interesting cats I've ever seen.  When I realized that it had been over a year since my last artwork to feature a big cat and that it was time for a new one, I decided that the Jaguar was a great candidate for the subject.

I made this image as one of my video tutorials where I demonstrate transferring characters from Daz Studio to Vue.  You can watch the video on my blog here: introvertartist.com/using-daz-…

I created this image using digital art techniques.  The Jaguar was posed in Poser, then exported to Vue where the rest of the scene was made.  I used Vue to do the rendering, then GIMP for painting.

This is a really good 3d model of a jaguar. I can tell this is probably in the longleaf pine savanna of Louisiana because jaguars used to pretty common in the United states ranging from California to Florida. It would be cool if they were reintroduced to the United states.

Pretty awesome, have you ever done cover art for a book?  More than jaguars, but can explain later.

I've done several book covers, usually for fantasy art.  Here's a couple:

Nice work!  Looks like you did Front, Spline and Back.  What are your rates (Front only e-copy versus Front, Spline, Back)?  Obviously would need to tell you more about my book, but has a jaguar-man as one character, which is why your jaguar caught my eye.  It is an adventure fantasy, but based on Mayan mythology versus European.

Sorry for the slow reply, been traveling for business.  My rates can vary a lot based on the amount of time I estimate a project will take.  Usually they come in somewhere between $300 and $1000

That is more than fair, especially looking at the art on your site.  Fantastic work!  Will definitely keep you in mind when my book starts to take off.  More than I wanted to spend to get it started though.  Thanks!

Interesting how its in a pine forest, most people associate the jaguar with the rainforest ,forgetting that historically it was as common as the cougar throughout the southern  U.S.

Ah yes the Jaguar.

It's without a doubt my favourite cat, heck as a matter of fact my favourite mammal as well was being among my top 11 favourite animals too.

Awesome work man.
