Description
This is my first halfway decent shot of a chipmunk, despite numerous attempts in the past. They are very quick and observant, and usually scuttle off before I can even get the camera focused. Must have caught this guy off guard.Related content

We have them, but they are so fast and shy that it's almost impossible to capture them on camera. I just plain got lucky finding this guy when I did...he was busy looking for something to eat and didn't see me sneak up on him!

My family owns an old log cabin on one of Minnesota's lakes and there were plenty of chipmunks there. Here in WA we have opossums and raccoons which we didn't have back there. And moles, which are tearing up our yard again!!

We have tons of raccoons and possums here in N. VA, but not that many moles lately. Even though the 'coons go into the garbage dumpster, I think they're OK for the most part. They love old, stale, rotten chicken, though; they leave the bones all over my back stoop. Ugh!

They are really hard to capture in a picture; they move like lightning! I see them very often in the woods, but they always run and hide.

Thanks, Anita! I think that without these stripes, he might look like an ordinary old mouse. But the fur coat makes him cute, doesn't it? I was VERY lucky to get this shot...never expected I'd find a 'munk waiting for me!

They are! Of all the animals I've photographed, 'munks are the most shy. That's why I am so happy I finally got a pic of one that isn't too blurry!

Thanks! THey are really cute and tiny, but they move SO fast and are afraid of people. Most of our wild animals tolerate people pretty well (esp. the birds), but these little 'munks are always on the run from us.
