Thank you! I'm Scrooge-y about too much gift-giving and the commercial aspects of Xmas, but I like some other parts of it very much. But shopping and spending money just because it's Xmas is a dumb idea for us (a great idea for the merchants, however).

Yes, I think my years in retail have ruined it for me. Don't know about other countries but most Americans have really lost sight of what this holiday should be.

Thank you so very much! I'm glad you like my decorations; lately I've been messing around with vector art, and that's what these objects are. I love MsKitty's fractal, though, which looks exactly like a wreath. It was fun to decorate!

Thank you, Jenn. These are such fun things to do; I wish I could do a little nicer job on them, but I keep trying. I made a bunch of picture tubes in PSP 7, featuring roses and Christmas objects. Maybe I'll do a wreath featuring those!

Thank you! I did have fun, Nance. I did several others, too; they seemed to be way too busy, too much stuff on them, so I chose this one. Of course, this has a lot of stuff on it, too.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked my journal. I like festivity too. But, would you believe I grew up in a home that never decorated for the holidays? No Christmas tree or anything. Mom and Dad didn't celebrate Christmas. We had dinner, but no gifts or decorations. It sucked.

desmo100 In reply to MzKitty45601 [2007-12-11 15:37:02 +0000 UTC]

There are some families that just don't seem to go in for Christmas decorations, and I think that's too bad. Maybe that's why you love them so much now. We are NEVER too old to have fun at Christmas! Whenever I decorate the tree, I think of my mom; she used to have certain rules when she and I hung all the ornaments: no "throwing" icicles on the branches (those tin foil thingies); each one had to be hung individually and look like an icicle would; no "angel hair"; no messy ornaments that were cracked or marred, no spray snow or soap foam made to look like snow. The light string went on first, then the tinsel garland, and the glass ornaments went on last. The trees were kind of puny back then, but the deco's looked really good!

Sounds wonderful. I wish I had such warm and cozy memories. I can picture it all now....You two done up in your flannel pj's with a fire in the fire place and fuzzy slippers on and hot cocoa with marshmellows on the coffee table cooling while your putting on the icicles.

Thank you, Lori. I did a bunch late last night, and they kept getting wilder and wilder as time went on. I thought I might revisit the situation tonight and try something a little less "de trop." If that's even possible.

desmo100 In reply to LoriVintage55 [2007-12-11 15:31:44 +0000 UTC]

My whole life is cluttered, so it fits a pattern! BTW, did you guys get any ice storms or other horrible stuff from the sky? The weather man said (yesterday) that a big one was headed towards Chicago, and of course I thought of you. Hope you won't be affected.

LoriVintage55 In reply to desmo100 [2007-12-11 15:38:12 +0000 UTC]

I guess my life is cluttered too, too many collections and stuff Well Chicago got it worse but yea, it's very icy down by where we live too (we're about 3 hours SW of Chicago). Yesterday my hubby came home from work just to salt the driveway. But before that, I went to check the mail which is out in the road and I was very scared cos it was a sheet of ice. I walked on the snow basically and went real slow. I was kind of proud of myself for doing it, although had I fallen and broken a leg, I wouldn't have been so proud

desmo100 In reply to LoriVintage55 [2007-12-11 16:19:03 +0000 UTC]

Lori, anyone can break a leg or worse in icy weather. I think if you can find a crust of snow, that's your best bet, or worst case, strap on those ice cleats on your shoes. When our sidewalk get icy, I sprinkle salt just ahead of where I'm going to walk; it starts melting right away, and that gives me a little footing. It's a pain to have to do that, but falling down and busting my head would be more painful! I'm more afraid of falling nowadays than I used to be; I even put a mat in the bathtub. Lots of soaps (liquids especially) make a slick film on the bottom, and I almost slipped the other day!

LoriVintage55 In reply to desmo100 [2007-12-12 15:24:25 +0000 UTC]

I should have probably used the salt but the bag is so heavy for me. I have weak wrists and hands. And yea, gotta be careful in that bath too! I've been very lucky to never have broken a bone in my lifetime

desmo100 In reply to LoriVintage55 [2007-12-12 17:39:04 +0000 UTC]

The salt bag is too heavy for me, too. I usually take a few scoops and put it in a smaller bucket; I can manage better that way. We keep everything in those 40-lb kitty litter plastic pails. They are wonderfully handy to have around!
