Thank you so much! That was one of those amazing sunsets you only see once or twice a year--if that many. I was happy I could grab a picture of it.

Thank you very much. Once in awhile, we have these killer sunsets. I've captured a few of them, luckily. I'd like to get the combination of a sunset over a lake or other body of water...that would be primo!

Thank you so much! That tree--a huge old English walnut in my neighbor's back yard--has made me mad a few times because it's in the way. But sometimes it works itself into a sunset picture really well. This was one of those times. It's a spooky looking thing, too, so that added something.

Goldenpegasus In reply to desmo100 [2005-09-04 03:06:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. The tree definitly worked in that picture. The way the limbs twist adds even more interest to the pic.

Thank you so much, Kim. I'm glad you like. It's not the kind of sunset you folks about west get, but it's one of our wilder ones, that's for sure. I'll be posting more from time to time. The best time to get good sunsets seems to be autumn and early winter, believe it or not.

yeah our sunsets are different than yours. The ones you get are so colorful. One of the things I loved about living in Virginia for the short time that I did. I look forward to seeing you post more as you can

I've got to admit...it was dumb luck; I just happened to be there and notice what was going on. I got about 25 shots of that particular sunset out my back 2nd floor window. I didn't have enough time to run over to the school yard where I would have gotten a clearer shot at the sky. But it came out pretty good anyway. The tree kind of helped, in a way. But the color was absolutely amazing.

Thank you for your very nice compliment!

That is absolutely gorgeous! I love how you've framed it so the tree sits off to the side, its branches reaching out and up into the sky. I love this. Reminds me that Autumn is quickly approaching!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

desmo100 In reply to shandy [2005-09-02 03:46:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Shandy. That big old tree (English walnut) is in my neighbor's back yard. When all the leaves are gone, you can see every single branch...it just about takes up the entire frame in my camera. I used to curse the tree out, but it sometimes lends interest to the sunset in an odd sort of way.

Fabulous sunset Jean. Wonderful colours. Finally found a place to get a new rechargeable battery for mine
so with a bit of luck i'll be able to get out there and start shooting again.
Your own shots are an inspiration. Cheers my friend

Thank you very much, Jan. Your compliments are so nice to read. I hope you will start shooting again. I would LOVE to see pictures of your part of the world!! I mean it!

Photography doesn't have to cost much, either. I have not sunk a lot of money into it...just the camera, a couple of memory cards, rechargeable batteries, and that's about it. I've taken thousands and thousands of photos with my little point-and-shoot, not very fancy camera. It's fun!

WOW! This is a very beautiful shot. The composition is great, the silhoutte looks really nice. The colors are amazing, very strong and saturated. No trace of oversharpening at all. Great job jean!! This is surely go to my list. Excellent!!

desmo100 In reply to emeniux [2005-08-31 16:14:18 +0000 UTC]

Wowza ! THanks so much for the wonderful compliment! There is a little saturation boost from Photoshop here, but not much. That was an AMAZING sunset! I was just blown away by it. The colors were so bright and vivid that all the surrounding landscape and vegetation was glowing from it. Occasionally we have killer sunsets like this, in autumn and early winter.

Thank you, Corina. It was one of those "Wow" sunsets that we get once in awhile. We haven't had one in several months, though. Fall and winter are good sunset months for us!

Kahlan14 [2005-08-29 16:24:02 +0000 UTC]

That is really beautiful I love the colours. The only time I have seen a sunset like that was when I was at my grandparents, luckily I grabbed my dad's camera away from him and took some awesome photos of it. I see alot of nice sunsets here but I can never get any good pictures of them because I have houses and lamp posts in my way infront of my house and then hydro wire and more houses in the back so I can't get any. I love sunsets and I wish I was at my grandparents more so that I could get some cool ones.

Thank you very much. It is hard to get a clear shot at the sky here, too. I have to go over to the school's playground to get some clear sky! This shot was taken out the back window; my neighbor's tree is in the way, but since there are no leaves, you can see the sky pretty well.

Your Welcome. You just gave me an idea there is this park down the street from my house the next time I see an awesome sunset I'm going to run down there quickly and see if I can get a clear view of the sky to get a picture.

desmo100 In reply to Kahlan14 [2005-08-29 21:42:25 +0000 UTC]

Great idea! I hope to see you post some awesome sunsets. Parks, pedestrian overpasses, and bridges over highways are all good for capturing a wider view. If you live near a large body of water, that would be wonderful too.

Kahlan14 In reply to desmo100 [2005-08-29 21:47:19 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately the closest body of water is Lake Erie which is one town over and since I can't drive yet I'll have to wait for those but I am close to a park and a bridge over train tracks that has nothing around it besides a street.

That sounds like an excellent vantage point! I'm a little afraid to take pictures near rail yards these days, here in the US anyway. I've heard stories about people getting arrested for taking pics of building, shipyards, railyards, chemical plants, etc. The photographers were doing nothing wrong, but the cops were overly zealous and hauled them in anyway. I think twice about certain areas nowadays, especially railyards! These are strange times, aren't they?

No, it's just so crazy now. Ever since 9/11 there's a lot of paranoia running loose in this country. I guess the government thinks people who take "industrial" pictures might also plant a bomb or something. These are not good times.

Thank you. We get some wicked sunsets in fall and early winter. Not too many in other seasons, for some reason. The other thing is that trees kinda get in the way when they're all leafed out, so maybe I have missed some great spring and summer shots because of the tree cover. I've got many, many more shots of great sunsets on the hard drive, but I'll wait awhile before I post another.

Wonderful picture by the way. Not so much because of the sunset itself but mostly because of the angle and the point of view that you chose.

I know how frustrating being camera-less can be. I always take mine, even if I'm just going to the local shopping center. YOU NEVER KNOW. I've seen things at the mall that would have made great pictures, if only I had my camera with me. Now, I don't fail to tuck it into my purse.
