Hi, Jean,
I know what you mean - sometimes things in life we love can be a pain. *smiles* But if it weren't for the frustration at times I don't think we'd appreciate the beauty when we see it... as you so obviously did!
Hugs,
Anj

Looks just like winter. Lonesome, cold, short days .... Very good shot.

Thank you very much, Sailor. I pushed the saturation a bit with this one. Maybe I should have left it alone, because winter sunsets tend to be "cooler" in color...

No, no. You did just right. It's got that decayed yellow look that I see every night up here as the sun slides over the western horizon. Gives me the shivers.....

That's good to know (about the colors), but I sure don't want to make you shiver any more than you have to! I know it must be darned cold up there...it is here, too. Yesterday, our temps were mid-70s; today, 45 was as high as it got. What crazy weather, eh?

Yeah. Crazy weather. It was warm all last month, now it's starting to get colder, but still not normal for what we usually have this time of year. I guess I shiver from memories...... the nights are to long, with nothing to do. I can't asleep 12 hours, unless I stay up for 48 before hand and I run into the problem, what to do to stay awake.. lol.

When the clock changes from daylight savings to standard, my whole sleep routine gets really messed up. I tend to oversleep quite a lot; in summer, I sleep very little!

Thanks, Thelma. The tree is often a backdrop for my photos; it's got an interesting structure, I think.

Thank you! It's an easy shot, too--that tree is right outside the back window, in my neighbor's yard.

It has a bleak quality about it, but also a sort of spooky quality too. The tree is taking on an ominous look.

I think it's ominous, too. All the trees around here are looking spooky these days, and they make great subjects for photos.

A tree is a good subject no matter what time of year it is!!

Thanks, Sophie. You are the only one to mention this, and I'm glad you did. It's the very first thing I noticed about the picture, that it was too warm for that big old skeletal tree! I was wondering whether to tone the sky down a bit, but decided to let it be. Some of the other shots that didn't show the sun (clouds were covering) were far more spooky than this one. You are so right about the dichotomy. Usually, I don't like to have that in a picture---I just want to tell a story but not have too much irony. This was definitely a bit of irony!

Leaves are just a part of it. That darned thing drops some major limbs and branches after heavy storms. We had so much debris in our back yard after one storm that I made a pile out on the street to be collected--the pile was larger than our car. And that was after I broke them up into smaller pieces!
And did I mention the walnuts? They are covered with a thick green husk about the size of a tennis ball. Tons of those things fall into our yard, too. The green stuff turns into any icky black mess that you can slip on if you take a wrong step. They have to be raked constantly during late summer, so it's kind of backbreaking work keeping up with that.
The squirrels love the tree, though. And I like it too, because after the horrible beating its taken during the storms, it's still there! Gotta admire its sheer audacity to remain standing.

squirrels in the attic are a bane. We had them one year, but I managed to get rid of them through constant monitoring. And what a mess they made!

I'm glad you like it. I think bare trees are beautiful in their own way. Some of the ones around here are gnarled and twisted, as if they didn't care which way they grew. But they look starkly beautiful against the sky!
