I have a blood fetish, I know roughly how you feel. People like us will always be a little different, it can take time to come to terms with it.

*I* don't struggle with this but I know a few people who do. Mind you, they're vampires (real vampires, if you've done your research then you know I'm not referring to Twilight obsessed children). How do you KNOW you aren't a sanguarian vampire? It's entirely possible, you know

Try that site. They're supportive no matter what you do, who you are, or where you come from
I don't know how old you are, ST, but if you're a teen then check out the teen section of the site. I've found it helpful for other problems I have (I'm not a vampire but I'm extremely light sensitive and they have stuff regarding that)

haha this reminds me of a few years ago when I was convince for a few days that my photo-sensitivity meant I was a vampire. Then I read through a few of the more authentic websites and was almost disappointed that I'm not.
I was only 14 then though.

if i bleed i'll lick it all up and it actually does taste good. it's sort of comforting to lick your wounds, too, in an animalistic way. but i think this is more serious because you seek other people's blood. you should talk to a doc or at least do it in a safe way. i know there are places where blood is stored specifically for blood drinkers. if you wanted to find one of these places and donate your own blood for future drinking use maybe that would be better than self-injury and drinking what may be unclean blood.

Not the only one. Here is a website with a support page for people they call Sanguinarians. [link]
You didn't hear this from me but if I were to hypothetically give you advice I'd tell you that pure sugar, no additives curbs the craving a bit because it triggers an endorphin rise. Also sex, same difference, or for certain people being in large crowds of excited people and making platonic skin to skin contact.

Mmmm, my ex was like this. I used to bite my lip till it bled just to drive him insane when he'd kiss me. I don't see anything wrong with it so long as you don't seriously injure yourself. I also used to be a blood drinker back in high school. After I had my son though, I lost my taste for it.

Hey i think this is kinda cool, but in your case it's serious. I mean i drink my own blood sometimes .. >.> But if you hurt yourself doing this... you should go see a doctor or something about this. Looking at the other posts people have made, it seems a bit more clearer. With all the iron and everything, maybe you have a lack of it, and your body only seems to think that iron is only found in human or your own blood. Please see someone about this! :/

it may be that you have an iron deficiency. the taste of blood and the iron that's in it may be what you are craving. you could always have that checked out.

MemoriesOfErika [2010-10-30 15:58:40 +0000 UTC]
No, no. It's a common medical condition to crave blood. Not only through the disorder GalleryCHOU mentioned, but there's one specifically for blood.
I'm afraid the name escapes me, but the reason is thus: Blood has iron in it, which you do need. Try supplements if you think it's medical.
If it's psychological, maybe you could find some other way of satisfying that side of your psyche or some kind of habit transference if you want to quit. Addictions can be removed from one's life through various ways.
If you continue, firedance99 is right, do be careful and what you consume, so you aren't hurting yourself (or others.)
Feel free to come talk to me, if you like.

Dear ST,
There is nothing wrong with liking blood. I tell myself this every day just to keep myself sane, and it works for the most part. Blood tastes unnaturally good to some people (perhaps just us), just as alcohol or cigarette smoke tastes unnaturally good to others. It may not be good for us, but it's still an addiction, only this one won't kill us.
Sincerely,
~SK

It's not "all goths." It's just that a majority of the cases who enjoy blood drinking tend to BE goth.

I think she/he's just pointing out the fact that she's not part of the goth blood-drinking majority. Because honestly, as both an ex-goth and ex-blood drinker, the first thing I assume when I hear of another blood drinker is that they're goth. It's just part of the stereotype, and the ST is pointing out they don't fit it.

Hm... Can't say I really understand, or maybe it's just because I'm not good at connecting the dots, but I assure you that you're not the only one. There are many things that this can be, as you'll probably read from everyone's comments, so you should probably tell a professional and get their diagnosis. Just...don't drink other people's blood. You don't know what's going on in their body, they might know either, and you might get hurt.

Intrinsica [2010-10-30 03:18:58 +0000 UTC]
It only becomes a problem when you can't control it. As someone who struggles with something similar (I like the taste of blood, the essence of humanity that it contains), I try to deal with the problem by making sure if I see blood, I'm cleaning it up, telling myself that someone was hurt for me to see it. And if I hurt my hand by accident, then I lick the wound, which seems fairly normal, and there is my "need" filled for the next couple of months.
I don't think I can help you control it, because I have trouble controlling it myself - but sometimes knowing you're not alone can help.

It's called Vampirism, the disease you might have- or as mentioned, it could be a fetish. It's no problem though, unless you think it's a big problem. Really, it's not, as long as you don't go nuts and start killing off people. Oh, and remember, our body is not meant to digest blood so be careful!

xxlifeisworthitxx [2010-10-30 02:08:14 +0000 UTC]
It's actually very common. Could be a fetish, could just be a (very very very) minor disorder. As long as you're not causing harm, (mind you, this includes yourself.), it's cool.

"Pica eating disorder is characterized by someone eating items that are not foods, such as the following:
- cigarette ashes, blood, buttons, coal, clay, coffee grounds, dirt, feces, glue, hair, paint chips, paper, soap, toothpaste"
It's a common disorder, probably stemming from a lack of certain nutrients in a person's diet. If it really worries you (and, judging by this, it does) you should talk to a doctor about it, and try to get to the root of the problem.
You're not alone in this, and there are people who can and will help you, if you go to them
