sometimes, even the best artists are afraid of drawing a person very important to them because they fear they will not do that person justice, or that they will mess it up somehow. i know it sounds a bit silly, but its true.
so maybe this friend of yours has this problem?

Maybe they worry that you won't like how they draw you and the don't want to insult you? I've had that problem with people...

Maybe you should say something to them. I know personally I never draw anyone close to me for fear of not doing the person justice. Your friend may feel something similiar.

I agree with the comments saying your friend just doesn't think they can do it good enough :3 Because if your an artist also you should understand the feelings of not being good enough. So don't worry n.n Just ask for one

He probably doesn't think he can put justice to a picture of you. Afraid he'll mess up and the picture will look horrible. Believe me, him not drawing you is probably a good thing.

I'm like that, I draw everyone I know except the people closest to me.
But it's only because I dont think I can draw them good enough, and I'd hate to disappoint them.

Same here! I finally attempted a drawing of my fiancee, but when I tried to draw my best friend, I threw it out because I couldn't get it good enough.
I've done some other art which included tracings from photos, and I did hers last for the same reason.

Maybe because your friend doesn't want a drawing to replace you... maybe she's happier with being with you, rather than capturing WHO you are in a portrait. I bet she feels like she couldn't do justice for a drawing of you, or that she would be ashamed of how that picture would be... that she would never be able to draw you just as you are... that she wouldn't be able to capture your personality, your emotions, your guy's secrets you have with one another in it...
...sorry, just reflecting on how I felt with a friend who felt how you do
