I re-painted my old painting from a thousand years ago: devilry.deviantart.com/art/On-… - got some great input from the great Todd Lockwood! It's more 3D now
This is a scene from Norse mythology. The god Heimdall, on his horse Gulltopp, and the god Odin, on Sleipner, are racing each other back to Asgard after a quick visit to Midgard (Middle-Earth). These divine nags are not depending on ground to reach high speed, water or air works just fine too. Trailing behind the riders are Odins two ravens, Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory).

Lovely artwork! The very concept of this scene warms my heart ^^ Gods just having fun
I have a youtube channel dedicated to norse mythology and I would love to cover this scene - is it really taken from the old Norse Myths or something you came up with? Even if so I commend you because this truly expresses the human nature that is captured within the Norse Gods. Even if this came from your imagination I'd love to perhaps create some original story around it at some point

One good thing about the Norse gods is, like you say, they are very human and 'approchable' to make new myths about. If you do make up a myth around this painting and post it on Youtube, do send me the link!

I suspected it was a scene of your own making since I thought I found it strange that I haven't yet come across that myth - however I couldn't claim that with certainty because tha nature of your idea fits right into the existing myths. Thank you for it

Wow, that's some improvement! They're popping right out of the picture now. I had to double-check that this picture wasn't traditional -- I love the quality of your paintings that somehow makes them look like old gouaches rather than photoshop jobs.
