Description This is how I truly feel...

I was going to leave this blank, but I feel I should say something in case there are some people offended.

I have never been more emotional about an art piece than this one. I was on my way to the grocery store when I saw this...

Wings ripped off the back of a bird.

I can only assume it was the product of some very cruel kids. (Edit, I'm also being told animals are known for doing this. I assume kids because it was in a very high traffic area and couldn't really see an animal going there) But it kinda hit home a bit.

I feel flightless. Broken.

Yes. Those are real wings from a bird. (I used proper precautions in handling the wings)

The "blood" is moisturizer with RIT dye.

I will always think about you little bird.

This is a very striking shot - the fake blood's very convincing.
1 reason why I don't like cats 'cause they do stuff like that.

wow... that is intense, i have to say. beautiful picture, though, as morbid as that may seem. It has meaning and a bit of truth to it, in a way. I'm sorry that you feel broken, but i've been there, too. I hope things go better for you =]

Wow, that's incredible. Yes, it is possible that other people (hopefully children, of course) could do that, but remember that it could have died it any way. It really is a gorgeous picture though, and I'm glad you added in all the info, for a second there I was write you a hate letter. >>" The blood makes the picture, very nice. I'm sorry things have to be that way for yourself thouh, just remember that life changes with every breath!

The thought that someone would do this is sick.
But...I know that people will do it.
I do love the concept of this picture, though.
Its very well done.I think I'll remember this poor little bird for a very long time.

That's very evocative. I hope that those feelings pass. And yes, cat's can do amazingly cruel things. As a child I found my cousin's cat playing with something that squeaked and struggled, but I had no idea what it was at first because it was all pink and fur-less. Then I saw the tail and recognized it as one of the little chipmunks that had made a nest in her yard. The cat had entirely SKINNED it except for the tail, and it was still alive. I wanted to stomp the cat and the poor critter both and put them out of their misery.

If it makes anyone feel better, I knew that bird...

I would recognize those wings anywhere. He smashed my windshield with a baseball bat and stole my girlfriend. I told her he would come to a bad end someday and I guess I was right.

Must be his 15 minutes of fame.

Stupid pigeon.

((On a serious note, deviouselite, this is a beautiful work of art. I guess humor is just my defense mechanism to cope with stunning and emotionally evoacative imagery))

I saw wings on the ground once on the trip to the food store. I wanted to go back for the photo, because that moment just spoke to me. I felt sorry for the bird. I think a cat got it, because there was alot of feathers all over the place.
Thankyou for this photo. I shall think of that bird also.

i don't think that kids ripped the wings off ... i mean ... ever tried catching a bird? ... rather difficult ... now ... when birds die though ... of what ever causes ... then it's usually their wings that are left long after the body has been eaten by ants and other scavangers ... it's mainly cuz there isn't all that much to eat on them ... but they are pretty robust (with the feathers and all) ... cuz ... i couldn't think of how else the bones could be that clean otherwise ... (having outside cats ... there are a lot of bird wings laying around my place ...) ... so dont' worry ... the bird might have died of some sickness or something ...

great picture btw ... i love the idea of having the blood go down the drain ... adds just that much more of a "what a useless death" feeling ...

as for yourself ... do something spontanious ... that generally helps me ...

When I was a kid, a little baby bird fell out of its nest, and the bullies at the bus stop stomped on it. I called them pathetic, so they beat me up.

I haven't thought about that in almost twenty years... glad to know that I've probably got a better life than all of them put together. I still feel bad for the bird, though.

Removing wings seems deliberate and thought out, not really a 'natural' thing, imo.

Not to be all raa-raa, but you can get your wings back. It's never too late to start being the person you want to be.

Cats do it alot, so thier prey cannot fly away and they can get to the tasty bird innards. How would it be an unnatural thought for a predator to want to ground its prey?

To OP: very original photograph. We've all seen tons of art about wings and feeling grounded, but this really makes it real. Not a photomanip, but real ripped off bird wings, shocking and interesting.

I meant to imply that completly rendering wings from an animal from another one, seems excessive. I'd think that a cat, for argument's sake, would be fine with tearing up a bird's wings to keep them grounded. To entirely rend them though? I suppose if the wings of a bird come out easily, I mean how strong do you have to be to do that?

Indeed, children can be so cruel sometimes... When I think that and compare it to the ideal thought of children being an image of innocence, it certainly saddens the prospects of humanity itself...
Deep thought aside, this piece has a certain sad beauty to it. I can't say much more than that~

Where i work we have to shoot birds cuz they cause damage. After a while you get numb to it. This just reminded me of that.

RoguePantheraPardus [2007-09-11 01:53:34 +0000 UTC]

I can't really tell for sure from the picture, but I've seen cats that do similar things to birds. They'll just take the wings off after killing them before they eat them. So, while there's surely a dead bird involved, perhaps there are no pre-serial killer children involved.

This will probably sound trite, but I do know how you feel.
I wish I could tell you some way to get past it, but I'm still here many days.
