I love the layers here - the hazy trees in the background, the dead wood in the middle distance, and the warm animals in the foreground. Wonderful shot!

how close to the North Gate were they? Chances are this group of animals have now been killed.
Its nothing short of a tragedy as to what has happened this year in yellowstone, 2400 bison have been killed for leaving the park to find grazing grounds. The current population census stands at 1950 with a large portion of that population on the very verge of death...with another severe winter storm on its way the possibility of seeing the numbers of Yellowstone's bison herd drop below 1000 this year is VERY likely.

These were miles inside the park, at about 7000 ft.

Going to Yellowstone was one of my very first vacations.. I remember we had to wait forever for a whole herd of bison to cross the road..
