Wow, well done to you for getting a shot of this one! *__* This particular specimen is a really fast flier, what luck to find one that was still! I have to say I love the angle of this shot, as has been mentioned. It just seems to pick out the delicateness of the structure. The eye is gorgeous, I love the detail you captured in it. I love how the far wing is out of focus, it gives you some idea of the long wing span these guys have. Another great catch!

Thanks. The contrast and saturation have already been increased by quite a bit. I'm afraid of going overboard with such tweaks. I agree that the ground is the worst part of the picture. But the damn butterflies just fluttered around and this was the only one that even bothered to stay still. ;-P

Yes, the depth of field that you have in this shot makes the butterfly appear small and vulnerable. Also, the bright green is a great contrast with the bright orange. It actually appears that the little guy is looking at you. Very nice shot....and just for the record, i am not a bit disappointed. This one is every bit as beautiful as the first.

Nicely photographed. What I like about your butterfly series is that you have photos of butterflies that I've never seen before. They're beautiful creatures.

I can't get over the perfect angles you're capturing with these shots. I'm not trying to be "too" nice; I just think you deserve a lot of credit for these. It's not like butterflies are the biggest flying instect; it clearly takes a lot of time and patience--and accuracy--to get the photos this way.
I mean, look at the wing structure going on there. Of course, you've already seen it, and I'm not talking about the MAKING of their structure, but the shot itself. It's the perfect distance, angled beautifuly...kudos to you, it's a very lovely shot.

Heh, now that you say it like that it sounds very convincing even to me! I'm very happy with the angle in this shot, I have taken probably 100+ butterfly photos (besides these ones I've been lucky to get to shoot closeups of wild ones on a few occasions) and this one has just about best angle of them all. Time and patience are indeed required - as well as a quick shutter finger. The butterfly house was very hot and humid, so the shoot was about 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. ;-P Thanks!

"It's funny that when I submit a journalistic article that I'm very proud of I get a handful of comments and no favorites, but when I upload a photo of a butterfly it receives loads of comments and a bunch of favorites as well."
hahahah!, well what can you do. it'll do you good to remember that butterflies rarely fail.
but anyways, i'm enjoying this series for the simple fact that the insects are beautiful, and i've never really bothered to look up close at what they truly look like but instead remain on the surface of 'oo.. pretty colors.'
and honestly, i'm a bit afraid of this little guy. but really.. i think you've so far picked some unique looking ones to upload. so i hope you continue with this.
