Description I drew this butterfly for the ASCII competition of IGDRP, a French demoparty, which was held last weekend. I still don't know how it placed, because the organizers of the party don't speak very good English and the result file was very unclear. I'm quite satisfied with it, though it looks even better on the Amiga font.

Awesome... A text masterpiece. You're great at taking advantage of all the characters you can.

That's really cool. Do you recommend me downloading the program JavE? I've never tried this kind of art before.

Yes, Jave is really good, though I didn't use its "painting features" (brush drawing, filling, gradients and stuff) for this picture. The interface is easy to handle. If you can draw at all (I hardly can), ASCII art shouldn't be hard. I should get my ASCII tutorial finished, I'm just really busy at the moment.

Very nice. Good use of characters and design as well as spacing. I can never get my curves quite right. -.-

I like the asymmetry. Makes it look more natural, rather than a bunch of characters. Very well done!

What do you mean? I Googled a reference picture of a butterfly and then used JavE to draw the ASCII - though I can draw with Notepad or Edit too. Try it some time, would be nice to see gym ASCIIs. ;->

Impressed with the complexity. Creating and editing it must have been a pain.

This is really cool, never seen really large pieces of ascii art before... The process looks really tedious and time consuming as you are limted to the stuff on your keyboard. I don't think i would ever have enough talent, or patience to do something of this caliber. You seem to have a real knack for the subject.

As for the pic itself, the butterfly looks rather fat or compressed vertically. the minor unsymetricalness of the piece looks kinda awkward in my eye (did you do that intentionally?).

It almost amazes me when I see something like that in e-mails. Well ... the complicated ones. And this is one of them.

Really nice piece of ASCII art, I like the fact that's it's not perfectly symmetric. Lazy people like me would have drawn one half and just mirrored it, but it definitely looks better this way!

Yep, like it.

I've checked the website for results, but for some reasons all ascii entries got 0 points, so I don't know how to interpret that. Suppose we will have extended information later.

i've never really seen much ascii art aside from older style emails and bbs boards, so thank you for bringing me here~!

it's quite astouding how well you captured the form of a smaller tailed butterfly, i don't think my sketches are so true to life...
great detials as well...
fascinating type of art!~
