Description EDIT : comments closed as people just don't seem to be able to read the description before commenting and keep on talking about "animals hit by cars / meat animals / American native cultures / tribes / pretty girls wearing fur coats / inherited coats from their grandma / whatever". READ the DESCRIPTION to understand the point of this stamp. That's all.
Thanks.

I just don't have the time to reply to all of these comments by repeating the same thing again and again so I'm closing them for now. I might reopen them someday but honestly I'm tired of trolls.

This is my own opinion and I won't change my mind about that so don't bother trying to convince me.

I just can't stand knowing so many animals are caged, bred, have to endure high stress and sufferings and end being skinned just for the sake of having a nice-looking coat while fake fur exists and is far less expensive while still looking pretty good. If you can't live without a fur coat because it's the best-looking thing on Earth to you, then just have a fake fur one.

(And don't start talking about Eskimos or people living in very cold countries, this is about fur farms breeding animals just for the sake of skinning them, understood?)

THE POINT OF THIS STAMP IS TO EXPRESS MY OWN OPINION ON FUR FARMS AND PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THIS INDUSTRY BY BUYING COATS/CLOTHING ITEMS MADE OUT OF THESE POOR ANIMALS' SKIN

By the way, that quote is a well-known one, I didn't made it up myself.

All the fur images here are from my own photographs of my ratties (I added leopard spots on Fenrir's fur using photoshop).
White one is Helyan, fawn (apricot colored) one is from Gaheris (RIP sweetheart ), "leopard" one is from Fenrir, grey one is from Lohengrin, "wild-feline-looking" one is from Belphegor (a rattie I fostered last year).

The skinned alive rabbit is from a vegan blog (there were plenty terrible images showing it with open eyes and seemingly moving), I asked permission to use it but the user told me he wasn't the copyright holder and he found this image on a free stock image website, if someone knows the original photographer please tell me so I can ask if I can use it or remove the image according to his/her wishes.

Why no mature content filter? Would you put a mature content filter on a photography of a piece of meat? I guess the answer is no. Then this doesn't need one either (plus the image of the rabbit barely lasts half a second and this is very far from being the most terrible image I found).

Based on $zilla774 's stamp template : [link]
Thank you very much for the wonderful template

Most humans are always just so jealous of animals that they have to imitate them. It's pathetic, really.

I agree that skinning animals alive is just plain cruel and I do not support it all. HOWEVER, I think this stamp generalizes things too much. Calling all people who wear fur ugly just incites anger for the wrong reasons.

I understand you made some exceptions in your artist's comment, but besides what you mentioned, there just so many other exceptions that is seems like you should have focused your stamp more on the 'cruelty of skinning' rather than the 'ugliness of people who wear fur'. Wearing fur is a part of a lot of cultures and the making of fur clothing is a part of the livelihood of many many people. Calling people who wear fur 'ugly' is not a very smart way to go about change. How about not insulting people, but instead bringing more awareness to specific wrongs, like skinning animals alive?

I frankly have no problem with the fur industry (as long as the animal is dead before skinning and not an endangered species) because in this economy I would rather see people with jobs and a few less animals around, than human beings not being able to provide for their families.

Anyway, I know it's hard to fit a ton of info onto a stamp, but I just don't think generalizing with an insult like you did helps your cause.

"My only true love, darling. I live for furs. I worship furs! After all, is there a woman in all this wretched world who doesn't?" - Cruella de Ville

If you must have a fur, choose a fur from a reputable furrier, and not one from a department store. Yes, they are more pricey, but you can virtually guarantee that the animal lived a good life. You can tell by the staple of the fur. If it slides through your fingers like soft human hair, that's good. If it sticks at all, that's bad. Also, buying from a good furrier can prevent you from wearing a fur from an animal that you didn't intend to buy, like a Chinese raccoon dog (who are mostly skinned alive, thanks to China's non-existent animal welfare rights.) Clothing producers are only required to disclose what animal adorns your clothing if the item in question is worth more than $150.00.

I don't like killing small animals. Let me say that now. However, I do like a soft, plush fur coat, and I would rather support the legal fur trade (with animal rights) than one without.

I also live on a small farm. We raise chickens that are expressly for killing and eating. I am, like most other people, an omnivore. I like meat. I'm not going to stop eating meat, and since I'm not, the best I can do is guarantee that my girls have a good life, and a swift death. And good gravy.

There are right ways to do everything. Though I personally do not support it, if you do it in a hmane way, I can respect you. Good job wording. And excellent point(s); if you kill an animal, nothing shoud be wasted. If the animal can live a full life, on a real farm rather than some disgusting factory of raising meat, I can live with it.
After all, I did just buy a pin the other day:
'I bacon.'
"My only true love, darling. I live for meat. I worship meat! After all, is there a woman in all this wretched world who doesn't?" - Myself
While I eat the meat, someone else should take the parts of the animal I don't want/need. Nothing in this modern world should be wasted, we already waste so much.

I'm glad you said it because I couldn't find the words. As a farm kid, we raised and killed plenty of rabbits for the meat. I don't like being called a bad person for not wasting the fur.

We had rabbits too at one point. Then my mom decided they were too cute to eat, which is a crime, because I do so love a good rabbit pie. I'm curious to try pigeon pie, as I heard that is yummy too.

But man, I live in the country...kind of. Not many pigeons around here. I think that all large cities should have a communal pigeon coot for the very poor to be able to keep birds for eating in there. They're like small cheap city chickens. It would help feed the starving.

Some people have just lost so many skills...

I completely agree with this stamp. I am against fur clothing, and have always been. I have never seen the appeal of it. But, I believe some people do it for show. Like in their mind, they believe wearing a fur coat, because it is so expensive, makes them beautiful and shows their wealth. Which I don't agree with, if anything I believe it makes them repulsive. Nice stamp, thank you for making it- and also, thank you for keeping it clean(such as, not showing extreme photos in it, of dead animals) Good work.

At first I didn't agree with this because I misunderstood what it was saying. but now I get it.

I'm not against people wearing furs passed down to them or using furs of animals that they find dead. I actually think that fur coats can look beautiful. But from what I understand, you mean that people who actively support the fur industry are ugly, and not the exceptions that I listed. And I fully agree with that.

The stamp itself is fantastic-looking. Your rats have beautiful fur.

I totally agree, I couldn't agree anymore. Ugly people try to take the beauty from animals because they are jealous. I wish they could just let the beauty stay in their environments so they can observe from a far, I mean would they like to be taken out of their home and skinned? I think not. Anyway I could go on forever, nice stamp because its true. Also, I have a journal about animal cruelty (skinning animals in fact) and I would like to know if I can use this in it?

Mmm, yeah. I don't agree with fur farms at all. ;__; It's cruel to raise an animal just so you can skin them. If you want to kill an animal it had better be for good reasons, like for food.

I mean, yeah there are plenty of people who wear fur coats because it's a family heirloom, but people who buy them in masses just to keep up with trends kind of sicken me. I wouldn't dare mess with a dead animal unless it died of natural causes or had to be humanely put down for medical reasons. (But taxidermy is pretty cool, as long as the animal wasn't killed for the sole purpose of becoming a statue...)

Now, I like animals as much as the next person, however I think you should look into the issue a bit before blindly following PETA, like you are obviously doing.
Your fur coat might have been made out of dog or cat fur by the way.
Fur farms actually are not hell on earth. People would not want to wear the pelt of a sick animal, as you can tell the difference in quality. I suggest you do a little research before just assuming things, and not trying to seem so arrogant about it.

Notice how I never called the creator of this stamp stupid or blind? What makes you think it's okay for you to call me stupid?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Emotional93 In reply to triippyx [2010-08-28 23:37:49 +0000 UTC]

because, as you can see, the point of this whole thing is not whether PETA exaggarates or not its whether it happens. That is the bottom line, the opinion is whether or not it's "bad".

(also grammar isn't that important-its the internet so who cares?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

triippyx In reply to Emotional93 [2010-08-28 23:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Well yes it happens but how it happens makes the difference. The fox could live a pampered life for all we know up until the point that it dies for the fur, and that would void the 'the animals are abused and live knee deep in their own shit' argument out.
And because my opinion differs I'm stupid and blind? And basic grammar matters especially if you're going to try and call someone stupid.

triippyx In reply to Babushka-Nipples [2010-08-28 23:37:55 +0000 UTC]

I've never understood the point of that, it's just ruining the fur coat and the animals the fur came from died for no reason at all then, and most people turn around and buy an other coat.

I completely agree against fur. If we were meant to have fur, we would be born with it. I'm not against Eskimos and others who use it simarly though, because they use it for the correct purpose of keeping warm. I'm against using fur simply for fashion.
However, I will say that while I don't really support fur farms, it is better than hunting these magnificent animals from the wild and hence causing further damage to endangered species.

Still, I support your view, hence the fave.
By the way, it's very hard to see the "skinned rabbit." Without your comment I would have no idea what it was.
