Description Pencils & inks: the illustrious
Original piece: [link]
Coloring: me

Despite being actually not a fan of things vampiric and the like, this was just too sexy a piece to not color.

Early on the whole thing looked too well-lit, so I added a blanket layer of medium grey at 66% opacity, then erased that layer so that the vampiresses' eyes shone through hauntingly. This piece was a nice challenge in that, unlike in the usual piece by rplatt, there were nearly three figures to color (not including Dracula himself).

Comments and suggestions welcome.

DANG I cannot believe I clicked this. I do happen to be at least a bit perverted. Well.....great detail. Besides the ASTONISHING HOTNESS of these ladies, it is great. I didn't notice the Dracula in the back ground before.

Dog or bat, lucky or unlucky, one thing's for sure -- he's usually depicted as surrounded by hot vampire-ettes (damphirs?). =-P

Details look incredibly amazing and kickass. Dracula is sure one lucky dog-- er... bat, ain't he?

MMMMM! Extremely hot and well colored! Wish we could see the third vampiress in the back though

Thanks. I wish we could see her too -- I love dark-haired babes. But that's how she was shaded in the original piece.

Beautiful colors on this one. Very easy on the eyes. I really like how you handled the background. It looks so much more interesting with how you colored it. The figures turned out fantastic as well. Keep up the wonderful work.

Thanks very much, Russ.

First off, I was puzzled about the implied lighting. Before beginning to color a given piece, I create an extra-dark Levels clipping mask to see more clearly where you've drawn in the shadows, and I use those shadows as the basis for deciding where the light source is. With this piece, I didn't want it to look like the vampiresses in the foreground were in a studio, leaving only the figures in the background to look like they were actually in Dracula's boudoir. So I colored the figures in the foregound as if they were lit by a candelabra or two, perhaps held by the person they're looking at.

Also, Russ, I dig their differing expressions. The one on the right looks intrigued, whereas the one on the left looks both bored and interested at the same time. Also, they look like they have fun together when the Count isn't around.
