Description I found this old sketch to this while rummaging through my closets, looking for stuff to put in a garage sale. I decided to make a coloring exercise out of it. There are a couple of mistakes, but it was fun to do overall.

I keep staring into his eyes... it's like Ken's trying to hypnotize me. xD
Love the coloring and pose! Really like how you did the hair.

I've been accused of falling into a rut by "breaking the fourth wall" and having the character look right at you, but I can't help it. The eyes being the windows to the soul and all that. Thanks for the fave!

Aw hell, break the fourth wall as much as you want.

Dunno why I took umbrage to that initial statement. It's entirely correct.

Oh, I'm not complaining at all about "breaking the fourth wall" in your artwork. I think it's quite nice, actually, when people do that.

You're welcome!

Heh heh heh... More than the glare?

Silly, yes...but if he'd tossed that look to Jun once, *just once* in the series, half of the fannon would be non-existent, yah?

Yeah, it would've been a done deal.

Heh-heh, and what has he been up to, we wonders? He has such a mischievous look to him.

Katse: "There's a HORSE in my rose garden!"
Nox: *Munch* *Munch*
Katse: "A-a- horrible ghost horse!!"
Nox: *Munch* *Munch*
'Jiro: "Where did Nox get to?
Ken: "No idea."

Ken: "Hey, it's not me whose milking Katse's fear of spooks for all it's worth. Nope!"

This is another beautiful piece by you. I do not usually associate that smile on the Eagle, but I like it. Especially if I think that he might be doing something to capture his favourite Swan's attention.

Oh, Ken can be quite expressive... occasionally. The expression was why I chose to color him.

He knows how to milk the effects of those big blue eyes. Don't let that noble demeanor fool you.

He sure looks like he knows he's getting away with something! It's really nice to see him here with a happy, mischievous expression -not enough of that in the series.

I think it was a little more lighthearted in the beginning of the series. Then again, they were younger and the battles were less ugly and more fantasy oriented. But hey, that's what fanart is for.

Thanks! I've never been told I had amazing colors beforeβ€”I'm still very new at color work. The scanner dimmed them a lot. It's mostly blue and violet undertones and very, very little black.

As someone who is miserably terrible with real-life colour media, I envy your skills! Your colour depth and lighting is gorgeous. Particularly the way you highlight hair, always strikes me. Sucks about the scanner, those things are so picky!

I had no idea what to shade with in color until I attended a color pencil drawing seminar at WorldCon (hosted by Mark Ferrari). He underlays his flesh tones with shading in blue or violet! Then he colors over with warmer flesh tones and uses a white pencil to buff and mix the colors. Give it a try. As for shading, I found this tutorial very helpful: [link] It demonstrates how using black for shading will flatten a drawing and how to use complimentary colors instead. In a lot of my more recent color pencil drawings, I try to use black as little as possibleβ€”I use a combination of blue and brown instead.

Hair highlights are just repeated pencil strokes. Bear down where you want it to be dark and lighten the pressure where the light areas should be.
