2013.11.07, Duna Tower, Budapest, Hungary.

Nikon D90-IR - 10-24 @ 13 mm - f/8 - 119,4 sec - iso 400 - B+W 093 - Lee Big Stopper - NEF - Capture NX 2.2.6 - PS/CS6

After the positive outcome of my experiments with the Lee Big Stopper and the
B+W 093 (830nm) infrared filters combined, I tried to use this setup
for modern buildings. I don't know Budapest too well, so I took
inspiration from kgeri and arbebuk - I hereby officially thank
them for their tips on locations.

As for this shot, it's a tad noisier again than what I'm used to, as the sun was already setting - 830nm filters don't tolerate low light well, therefore I went for a 400 ISO with a 2 minutes exposure and pushed the RAW +0,5 EV further in Capture NX. I'm suprised how sharp it came out nevertheless, the tripod was extended to it's extreme position and the traffic on the street was also high.

Thanks! It's quite noisy for a 'scape' shot. Tried to reshoot it with more light several times but the clouds were not willing to cooperate again.

I haven't noticed the noise in this size, but now that you have said it, I can see it. Though not a distraction in this size. I don't know how it is in bigger format?
Have you applied any noise reduction tools here? I just love the noise reduction of Lightroom personally

I use only Capture NX and PS.
Nikon cameras after the D3/D300 generations usually have acceptable luminance noise and low color noise. When needed, I reduce only color noise (Noise Ninja standalone - it's old but works great) because reducing luminance noise loses details as well.
This photo (like all 830nm infrared photos) are monochrome out of the camera (with a very slight warm tone when used with the Lee Big Stopper added), hence noise reduction would not work well here without losing the details on the building.

Oh I only just now realized you're using an IR camera.
I think most people won't immediately notice the noise, but ofcourse you are the one that have to be happy with it.
When I'm in a situation like this I always have to make the choice between my annoyance about the noise or my annoyance about the loss of details as a result of noise reduction.
Usually noise bugs me a little bit more

I prefer to keep the details. Noise is not that bad here, I'm sure it would print well. Luminance noise is not a big deal on print, it's like film grain anyways.

I'm enjoying these recent works with the movement evident in clouds and water contrasting with the sharpness of the various structures. Even the blur of the tourists adds an interesting effect and gives a new dimension.
