so you think such a filter works on an eos camera?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DimensionSeven In reply to Thinking-Silence [2008-08-26 14:48:56 +0000 UTC]

It works on EVERY digital camera that you can get your hands on, no matter the size, brand, price or age. CCD sensors, CMOS sensors, even Fuji's and Sigma's exotic sensors can record the infrared spectrum, or even cell phone cameras. The problem is, that all sensors (except for some very old, 2 MP compact cameras) have an infrared-blocking filter built in front of them (it's called the hotmirror), to prevend infrared light being recorded on regular photos. The infrared filters let only infrared light through, so if you use longer shutter speeds, than the strenght of the hotmirror, you can get a decent exposure. The strenght of the hotfilter varies from model to model. Here you can compare a few: [link]

Thanks very much
Well, I have read an similar article a few month ago and it claims that Nikon cameras are much better for IR and some of them just need a few seconds for exposure...

Are there different qualities, when I buy an IR-filter?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DimensionSeven In reply to Thinking-Silence [2008-08-28 08:50:22 +0000 UTC]

The 6 megapixel Nikon bodies (D100, D70, D70s, D50, D40) do have a weak hotmirror, it must be these models that this article is referring to.
Actually, there's not a big difference in the optical performance of IR filters, the most wide-spread (and recommended) filters are Hoya R72, Cokin 007, and Kenko has also relesed a similar one. They all cut around 720nm (it's also called near-infrared). The less frequently used 960nm filters (far-infrared or deep-infrared) produce black and white images.
The Hoya R72 is a screw-in filter, no need for shading (just the regular lens hood). The Cokin 007 is a square filter, it needs some sort of custom made shading because light leaks in. The Hoya is expensive and only good for one filter thread size, the Cokin is a lot cheaper, and good for all your lenses with an adapter ring.

Az előtér és a háttér közötti több kilóméteres távolság miatt a badacsonyi hegyek kevésbé exponálódtak. Pontosan én sem értem miért, hiszen a pára ennél sokkal-sokkal nagyobb távolságban sem okoz gondot infrában. A felhők meg maradtak kékesek az utómunka során, kézzel nem akartam belenyúlni, csak generál műveletek történtek Capture NX-ben.
Pontosan mire vagy kiváncsi amikor azt mondod 'hogyan készül egy ilyen?'

bigcbigc In reply to DimensionSeven [2008-08-23 19:35:59 +0000 UTC]

hát hogy mitől kék?
egyébként a hegyek gyönyörűek, a felhők olyanok, mintha kaptak ovlna egy kék szinezést...

DimensionSeven In reply to bigcbigc [2008-08-23 19:46:58 +0000 UTC]
