wow, now this piece I gotta say I really like!! Especially their hair!!! Beautiful job on the hair and all the ranges you've managed to capture in it!!

Your tones are really nice here! I think you got them down with this piece!

The blending I feel could use more of a gradient so the outline of the shading isn't so easily identifiable.

There seems to be an odd patch of white on Cruise's cheek by his hairline. Almost as though you had erased that area and didn't work it anymore?

Did I mention I loved his hair?

The lady opposite him I feel needs a little more darker tone to her skin. Her nose and top of her forehead has nice shading, but she seems awfully pale and detail-less in her facial shading on the rest of her forehead and cheek and chin area. Again, you've done her hair beautifully as well!!

Once upon a time, when I was first starting out in drawing, I remember someone once telling me never to leave a 'white' area on your page. Not 100% white. To always just touch it with a hint of lead where, with the right shading in the surrounding areas can be made to look like a natural highlight of the skin. With a highlight area of 100% paper white, I personally find it's too much with skin that it makes it look unnatural. Ever since I heard that big of advice years ago, I have always used it in my own drawings and have yet to be disappointed with the end results.

Hope this helps!

hi! i wanted to start it off saying that it's not absolutely one of the pice in which i put all my efforts on, or at least not on the girl.. i don't really know why but once finished tom i lost my pull to finish the drawing so she's not that detailed as he is...
generally i like some 100% white spots but i have to agree with u, here they doesn't fit so well...but now i'll try to eliminate all the white spots and see how the pice turns out, i'm open to all advices so thx for giving me so much!!! i'm sorry if i'm repetitive but thx so much again for commenting my works

well you're definitely not the first one to have that happen to Lord knows I have several pieces that I just didn't want to finish..and well, didn't! LOL Just hope you're able to make heads or tails out of my advice and use it You're definitely already on the right track! Keep up the great work!

i'm glad u think i am.. i still don't feel like i'm an artist at all ^^ but people always say that keep on learning all your life long so i think i never will, i only hope i'll get good enough

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Trigar In reply to Dina-Marchiori [2010-05-05 20:23:52 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you said it! I feel, that as an artist, as you grow older and exposed to new art and techniques you will always find something new to learn. If you don't, then you're not paying attention As for feeling like an artist, honestly, I had refused to call myself one until I started getting steady commission work from it...and even then it took me a while. I think for me, I became an 'artist' when I learned to stop comparing and criticizing my art style to other's art styles and appreciated my style for what it is. One day you will call yourself an artist too and all those around you will rejoice cuz you're finally listening to what they've been saying for so many years! LOL We *are* our worst critics

Dina-Marchiori In reply to Trigar [2010-05-06 12:58:46 +0000 UTC]

i've always thought the same thing, sometimes people tell me how much they like my works while i always find something wrong, or st i don't like, st that could have been done better, more skillfully, better shaded, more alike... i don't really now when i'll be able to call myself an artist, cos i think of an artist as someone who can live on their works and i think i'll never be able to, but drawing is my favourite form of fun and i hope i'll never give up on it

tom took me a long time to complete... it was funny but i mistook the kind of paper, it would have been better with a smooth one but i quite like the result anyway, it's good that u think it looks realistic

Cool! I like the composition with the close cropped faces filling the page like that. Your proportions are good, though Tom Cruise's nose does not look quite right. You have a beautiful range of values here. And good use of value changes to show the planes and contours of the faces. It's an excellent piece of work!

Really nice use of values here! Best work so far...only suggestion...try to keep the line work to a minimum (around the profile of the woman's face). Use a lighter pencil or a blending stump to create the edge of her face. That will give you a smoother transition.

But, well done!!

thx a lot! yeah i think i improved with the contrast but i'm not fully sutisfied with this drawning, the black parts are not even as i wanted them to be, i'll try with a smooth paper next time hoping it will be better
