Description
This is a picture of another creature from my Zaldor fantasy setting. Since 'Northern Zaldor' is a stand in for North America, I decided to inhabit my fantastical land with North American fantasy creatures rather than traditional European and Asian ones. This picture was started a while ago, but it took a while for me to get my scanner working, so I put it on hold until I got it working again.
The Jersey Devil is a chimerical forest creature, found in the temperate forests of North Eastern Zaldor around the Great Lakes, a beast with the head and hooves of a deer, the wings on an eagle, the teeth of a wolf and paws of a mountain lion, with a long tail tipped with a tuft of hair. Though it is called "Devil", it is not a spirit in anyway, and is a flesh and blood creature with no supernatural powers. Though clearly not a natural creature, it's hybrid nature is likely the result of the same mutative magics that gave rise to creatures like Griffons, Pegasai and Sphinx.

Though many attribute the Jersey Devil with supernatural powers that cause misfortune or disaster, this is unlikely the case, as no one has seen a Jersey Devil ever using any powers on its own, and such accusations are merely superstition and rumour. In reality, a Jersey devil can is simply a fearsome predator, and relies only on its natural weapons and power of flight to drive off intruders or hunt prey.
Rarely seen, some think there is only one Jersey Devil and that it is immortal, born when a supposed witch cursed her own child in the pain of child birth and caused him to turn into a man-eating devil. In truth, there are many Jersey Devils, but they are shy and elusive, preferring solitary lives when not breeding, and can be slain as easily as any other flesh and blood creature. Though sometimes territorial, Jersey Devils rarely attack humanoids, preferring much easier prey like deer, ground sloths and rabbits over humans.
Despite containing the name "Jersey" there is no State of New Jersey in Zaldor. Instead, the creature takes its name form a moderately large village named Jersey, the location where the creatures were supposedly first spotted during Eastern colonization of Zaldor, a village that the witch that created it was reported to live.
