Description so yeah, this is a sun I made. combines a lot of hubble imagery for the surrounding stuff. the orbiting matter (and most of the 'environment') is nebula. the sun is made from satellite images of clouds. the solar flares are brushes from I know not where...had 'em for like 7 years. proof you've been dicking around with photoshop too fucking long.

anyway this is just a still of a moving image. that thing actually moves.

this is supposed to depict a fast spinning sun throwing off stuff into a plasmic disk, forming and organizing the orbits of the planets. you would need to assume polarized fusion for this to actually be the case.

give me feedback or don't.

This is an absolutely amazing piece! Please tell me, what program do you use to do this kind of art?

This was a shot processed out of AE using Photoshop. Most of the imagery used in the AE project was generated / manipulated in Photoshop.

I like the golden colour highlights, as throughout the piece and bringing about compositional focus/aesthetic effect. The sun-thing is nice, but so clear to the vision, that this appears less realistic/observational than it does indeed a "computer graphics animation circa 2011 for immanent display", or as some sort of flashy wallpaper (c.f. "dicking around in photoshop"). Nevertheless the textures used, including the fractals, are good: you might achieve greater dynamism by applying further layers with less crispness, more blurriness, etc. for greater action and a more serious appeal. It is good that you, on this count of immersion, made only larger stars apparent, as the smaller ones are blocked by light pollution. I think that some of the semi-translucent stars, such as at the bottom right, do not give the appearance of being covered up by light pollution, so much as simply what I said they were: namely, they appear just like the technique (presumably) used. Maybe some textures over the top with contrast, such that those stars are still bright, but only peaking out of a few holes in a given texture, would make them better. That point of adding more texture apart from the sun would apply elsewhere for more pleasing nebulae in this piece. It would be nice to see this thing moving, as you said it does.

Yeah, the animation is definitely less sharp. I actually over-sharpened this for DA because I thought people would hate it otherwise. The animation has a shallow depth of field, lens flare, flickering, and those 'filaments' are reaching out at the viewer as the sun spins quickly.

I will apply your critique to the final render. thanks, as usual.

Oh right. Feel free to send me what you have, the final render of this and/or anything else in future. You are welcome.
