Description DISCLAIMER: This work takes partial inspiration from the works of JK Rowling but in no way endorses her horribly transphobic views.
Name: Cubone
Scientific name: Penthocranium armatus (armoured mourning skull)
Height: 0.2 meters
Length: 1.6 meters
Diet: Omnivore
Affiliation: Minor Kaiju
As with the Forbidden Valley itself, many of its inhabitants have entered the local folklore of Baja California, particularly amongst the Romani people of the area who have lived near El Valle Prohibido since at least the time of TJ Breckenridge's venture into the Valley. One such creature is the cubone, a pudgy little anapsid found in the Forbidden Valley's surface-level deserts. Their armoured heads are biolithic, having fused with calcium and other substances acquired from the Valley's walls, and come in handy both in duels between males over females (wherein the males will ram heads like pachycephalosaurs are believed to have done) and to protect the skull from powerful blows. Cubone feed on everything from desert plants to tiny insects, and rely on their head armour and thick, spiky skin to protect themselves from predators. They can also squirt out a slippery transparent liquid from their eyes which quickly coats their bodies and allows them to slip free of the jaws of predators, which has given rise to a certain local legend. Basically, due to sightings of cubone supposedly "crying" and a beautifully complete fossil of some kind of ancestor of the species (named marowak by MONARCH scientists), the local Romani's ancestors concocted a legend that cubone are in a state of perpetual mourning for their diseased creator-mother, and now where her bones as a sign of mourning. Nobody really believes in this myth any more, but it has become deeply associated with the cubone and marowak, to the point where there's a tavern in Todos Santos named the Cubone's Grief.

Name: Niffler
Scientific name: Anatolestes mazemenos (cuddly duck thief)
Height: 0.1 meters (0.4 meters when rearing up)
Length: 0.3 meters
Diet: Herbivore
Affiliation: Minor Kaiju
Nifflers are small, stocky, terrestrial monotremes closely related to the platypus and which come in a variety of colours. Dwelling to the areas nearest to the surface of the Forbidden Valley's desolate caves, their often dangerous existence, wherein they mostly clamber around the caves in search of what sparse plant life they can find, has led to their eggs becoming hard and durable and stored within a hard-to-see pouch so that they are not exposed for predators from the upper levels to seize. Female nifflers have a notorious obsession with all things shiny due to them consuming them every now and then to harden their eggs (though not enough to be considered extreme omnivores, as most of the products of the niffler's consumption of these substances go to her eggs rather than herself), collecting them in their pouches before devouring them. Usually, these materials consist of gems and metals, but MONARCH agents were able to lure out female nifflers with coins. Due to their obsession with anything remotely shiny, these female monotremes frequently steal our technology, from belt buckles to pickaxes, and so MONARCH agents working in their habitat always carry around small supplies of metal to distract them with. That said, the female niffler's infatuation with the shiny can come in handy, as they can be trained to recover lost equipment. However, due to concerns over how the exotic pet trade can affect their population and the females' massive potential for domestic destruction only MONARCH agents are permitted to handle them. Nifflers typically escape from their predators by climbing, scampering or burrowing away from them, though will fight back viciously with their claws if backed into a corner.

Name: Graphorn
Scientific name: Polypocephalus laetus (colourful octopus head)
Height: 4 meters
Length: 11 meters
Diet: Omnivore
Affiliation: Minor Kaiju
Graphorns were once commonplace around the Forbidden Valley's underground forest. They are apparently closely related to the clawrats, and some MONARCH agents believe that the graphorns former success in the Valley indicate that both species belong to a group of vertebrates whose isolation in the Hollow Earth has led to them taking a completely different evolutionary path to all other chordates. Regardless of their origins, the graphorns' omnivorous diets (consisting of large plants and small animals, seized with their powerful tentacles and crushed in their mouths (even cacti!) whilst being softened into a slurry by a bath of enzymes within the graphorn's maw) made them highly successful for some time, but eventually competition from other creatures such as the Megalostyrax and erumpents left the graphorns critically endangered. Only a handful of these creatures now exist, and they are so rare that some MONARCH agents fear that there is only one breeding pair left in existence. The only graphorn we can keep tabs on, an individual nicknamed Newt, currently resides in the Forbidden Valley MONARCH Outpost, and we are currently attempting to clone him so we can somehow keep the graphorn species alive. However, due to their general aggressiveness (with the exception of Newt), thick hie and armour plating they are difficult to keep in zoos.

Name: Erumpent
Scientific name: Ekriktikoceros rotundus (rotund explosive horn)
Height: 8 meters
Length: 12 meters
Diet: Herbivore
Affiliation: Minor Kaiju
Erumpents are giant, almost hairless elasmotheriines that dwell in the Forbidden Valley's underground forest. Dwelling in small herds, these massive mammals possess biolithic horns containing a highly explosive fluid, which is also stored in bags of skin along their head and front back. Erumpent horns are partially permeable, and thus can be filled with a great amount of the erumpent's liquid and then rammed into an object to discharge the fluid at such a speed that a massive explosion occurs (the horn literally acting as a giant syringe). These hulking rhinos typically use this ability to fend off predators such as tzitzimime and to gain access to difficult to reach areas, and they are frequently credited with fighting back against overpopulation of the underground forest by forcing open a wider space. However, these explosions can harm other animals, and sometimes erumpents end up in conflict with even other herbivores (though for the most part they are gentle and even playful creatures). Using their flexible lips, these rhinos can feast upon the bevy of plants within the underground forest, feasting on everything from mosses and lichens to tree ferns. During the mating season, rather than engaging in duels the males engage in sexual display using their horns and cycling their fluids through their heads (though not too quickly), with the children staying with the herd through-out their entire lives (though the herds come together in order to mate without causing incest).

Name: Caveshield
Scientific name: Cavernaclypeus exoticis (exotic cave shield)
Height: 2 meters
Length: 5 meters
Frill length: 2 meters
Diet: Herbivore
Affiliation: Minor Kaiju
Caveshields are small chasmosaurs found in the caves within the walls of the Forbidden Valley. Their frills are incredibly tall and wide laterally, but are rather thin as they are less for defence and more for display. A lack of large predators in the caves means that the caveshields don't really need their shields as defence, and they are now mostly used for sexual display during the mating season. Indeed, these chasmosaurs are probably the largest creatures that could possibly live in the caves, as the sparse food sources don't exactly make life in them easy. It seems that they only retained their horns for scrubbing moss off the cave walls, ceiling and floor to feed upon and for in the unlikely event that they fall from their natural habitat and end up having to fend off predators in the surface deserts below, though falling down there is almost a death sentence anyway as they find it difficult to make it to the caves again afterwards. Despite their relatively peaceful lives, caveshields are highly aggressive and territorial in order to conserve what little resources may lie on their turf.
