Description
This is a drawing I started a couple of years ago... I think I will work on it again, because I have an idea for it now.The only thing is, in my oppinion the face looks a bit flat... what do you mean?

I think the face could use some more face defining shadows/highlights. Something about the nose seems off to me but I can't say what it would be. I'm sure you'll figure out where you want to go from here with it though.

Well...um...I wanted to try but my pencil skills are below yours so yeah. But if no one else wants to try then I'll give it a go.

I don't know what your reference is on the face, each human being is unique. But we are also used to what we see all the time, whether it is 'accurate' or not. Maybe some large highlights on the forehead, and more of a curving as you reach the bottom of the nose will help. It may not be what your reference is showing you, but it can be what the human mind expects to see.

great start, dirk. I suppose it is flat, but I can't put my finger on why, you have such contrasts in her eyes and the hair. maybe after the lips are shaded more, and the cheeks, it will emerge

yeah, you're right. I've worked on the nose and lips some more... looks better now, but it won't be one of my best drawings...

I had the same thing go on with that Carlotta piece that I'm working on now.....I don't know how good it will turn out, but I know it will be better than if I finished it a year ago. keep going with it.
