Just an FYI: There was never a legal entity named the "Austro-Hungarian Empire". The correct name was the Dual Monarchy. The idea of calling it an "empire" came from propaganda during WWI.

I mean that it was a result of the 1867 Compromise where Hungary got back home rule, but did not become independent. As a result, there was both an Austrian Empire and the Crown Lands of Hungary. One was an empire, the other a kingdom. So it was named the Dual Monarchy. What I meant precisely is there are no legal or official documents that speak of an "Austro-Hungarian Empire". They either speak of the "Dual Monarchy", or the "Austro-Hungarian Monarchy". The official documents use the title "k.u.k". which stand for "Imperial and Royal". Hope this helps!
