Description

"Eternity's Shroud" is a crossbow of legend, said to be created by a cabal of time-wizards who sought to harness the flow of moments into a weapon. They bound the essence of eternity to the heartwood of an ancient treant that had witnessed the rise and fall of empires, embedding within it the power to manipulate time itself.
Properties of Eternity's Shroud Crossbow:
Temporal Bolt: Each bolt fired from Eternity's Shroud is wrapped in temporal energy. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be slowed (as per the "Slow" spell) for 1 round as time warps around them.
Chrono Mark: Once per day, the wielder can imbue a bolt with the power to mark a target. If the bolt hits, for the next minute, the wielder can use their bonus action to teleport to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the marked target, as time bends to the wielder's will.
Echoes of the Past: The crossbow holds 1d4-1 charges of the "Rewind" ability. After an attack roll is made against the wielder, they can use a charge to force the attacker to reroll the attack.
Curse of Eternity's Shroud:
Whispers of Ages: Each time the crossbow's Chrono Mark is used, the wielder is afflicted by visions of their own past mistakes and possible futures, causing them to have disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the end of their next turn.
Temporal Backlash: If all charges of "Rewind" are expended, the fabric of time rebels against the wielder. They age 1d10 years instantly. This aging is reversed after a long rest, but the psychological impact remains.
Eternal Burden: The crossbow is bound to the wielder once they mark a target with Chrono Mark. If the marked target is not defeated within 24 hours, the wielder cannot take long rests, as they are plagued by incessant nightmares of time running out, until the target is defeated or a remove curse spell is cast on the wielder.
This crossbow, while not the most powerful artifact, wields control over the ebb and flow of battle, allowing its wielder to manipulate the field with precision and foresight. However, the weight of eternity is heavy, and those who tamper with time must be prepared for the consequences.
