Description I had a lot of fun with this feather painting. For one thing, it's the first time I've used pieces of antler in a framed painting. I also painted little deer hoof prints on them! I tried something a bit different with making the decorations asymmetrical. The whitetail deer is painted on a fan of two huge turkey tail feathers. Jutting up into the left-hand corner are two pheasant tail feathers. On the end of the leather cord are four wooden beads topped with peacock and turkey feathers. You can almost see the rainbow effect for the little turkey feathers in the scan. As always, I hand-cut my matboard to match the decorations within.

This painting is a commission for and will be given as a Christmas gift. The inside area of the shadowbox frame is 10"x20". I'm still open for commissions so let me know if you'd like to get your very own feather painting!

Thanks! I've been really experimenting with the decorations lately!

Yeah, I actually have already thought about painting on antlers. What I'd really love to get a hold of would be some moose antlers.

I'm normally not that big on feather paintings, but this one caught my eye because of the arrangement. The antler slices really add something special to it. Huge thumbs up

Thanks! I'm glad I did well with the arrangement. Trying new things is always taking a chance on something looking or not looking right. One of my favorite things about doing framed feather paintings is experimenting with the decorations.

Well done! Love that stag there- and the use of the antler slices! I love the look of life in the buck's eyes.

and I still think you're nutty for the matt because it's so frickin' crazy and cool!

Hey, thanks! I'm glad you like it!

And the matboard cutting! It's actually quite enjoyable, especially that last cut where the middle of the board (hopefully) falls away and leaves an interesting shape.

the back of my mat board looks like some strange picasso type architect was trying to design a building and got lost in the middle of the process XD

Lol. Mine aren't so pretty on the back either. I mostly scribble the main shape before getting too decided on which lines to use. It's all a part of the creative process!

TRUTH.... I need to take a picture of mat I did all that too Xd ... and it's not a shadow box- so it's all squished *is lame* XD
