Like his salamence self, Matthias is on the larger end of the night fury spectrum (luckily because like c'mon barret's probably like a foot taller than hiccup)HTTYD is literally my favourite movie you don't understand how much i love it it's like

I figure night furies can have variations of spines/fins and whatnot
The large fin on his back is actually an influence from Majime 's night fury, Nimbus
He played a huuuuge part in drawing Matthias (and trying to get somewhat of a handle on how the ffffffffuck to draw night furies in general. It took me four years to get an idea of how to draw them consistently)
While Matthias doesn't quite match, say, Toothless in speed and sleekness, his longer fins make it much easier to maneuvre through the air

It's just his head Is a little blocky. The body is perfection at its highest nightfury form.

don't have differentiating features like the drastically different heads. Also how does he scale to full grown toothless

And by that, I mean, I just adapt HTTYD to my own art style, while still trying to keep the flare to where it came from
Meaning that if Matthias were an official character in Dreamworks, I wouldn't expect him to look much different than Toothless, since the dragons don't have individual features like the human characters do :U

It can be difficult to draw a character that's diverse from its own species. I need to do that with my night fury besides the slanted eyes.
